I can definitely see a book or two for Comic Relief / Red Nose day etc (ala Quidditch through the ages, Fantastic beasts ...). I dont think she will start a new spinoff series based on what she's said. She seemed upset by the commercialisation of it all, which of course made her a fortune, but that also means she doesnt need to do this anymore.

Well she's already done the Tales of Beedle the Bard since she finished the series, does that count? I agree though that she'll probably only do books like that or the Comic Relief books in future, I can't see her writing a full-sized story again

No -- I loved the series and I think a spinoff would almost cheapen the experience.

It's kind of like when there's a great movie and all of the subsequent sequels are so terrible they go straight to DVD! The shame!

But the book around Dumbledore's life would be an interesting one, if written almost kind of like a textbook. Or any kind of thing similar to the "schoolbooks" that have already been published, as long as it didn't touch anything happening in "real" time.

I think a big encyclopedia book type book that with a few short stories and appendixes (similar to the Lord of the Rings appendixes) would be a nice way to finish things up. Something like this has been rumoured to happen at some point in future I believe.

She has said she was working on an encyclopedia (when they were suing RDR Books). I'm guessing thats still on, but as I said I dont think we'll see "novels". Mind you I'd read them if they came! :P

That would actually be fairly awesome, that hadn't occured to me!
(would this render sites like the HP Lexicon obsolete?)

No. The RDR Books case was actually producing a printed version of the HP Lexicon (with the assistance/approval of Steve). It doesn't have all the information the website has, and of course the ability to search and cross link is much better on the web, so even the Lexicon and printed book version can co-exist peacefully.

In the case, the lexicon was shown to have extra information that isn't specified in the official books (like maps etc). I'd imagine JKR will go ahead and add a truck load of background stuff that people might have been wondering about, but she's not going to copy the lexicon format if she goes ahead. I think she said something when testifing like that the release of the unauthorised book had dismayed her to the point that she wasn't as enthuastic about releasing the encyclopedia as she had been. I'd imagine something will still come at some point.
