    Dear all,

Please forgive me but I am not of a technical bent. I am currently in the process of looking for lights for a home extension. I am on the lookout for ceiling recessed lights that take the standard compact long life bulbs (the type you might buy in the local store) something akin to this: http://www.hilclare.com//Details/Goya-Shallow-Horizontal-Fitting/

To date all I can find are units that require the external ballasts and four or two pin bulbs?

I have seen the fittings I want in Spain and they take normal CFL bulbs. The reason I am after these lights as I wish to use the same type of bulb through out the house rather that specific bulbs for specific lights. I also want to see if I could use the dimmable Megaman CFL bulb in them

Am I missing the point? Is there a reason they are not available here? Build regs or something. All suggestions welcome.

a company called megaman do dimable gu-10 downlight fittings. they are approx the same size and colours as normal downlighters, ie chrome white and satin silver. the first place that comes to mind is eci lighting as they are a megaman supplier, http://www.ecilighting.ie/home.htm
here is the megaman site. http://www.megamanuk.com/products/product.php?sid=10

there are new LED lamps to fit all kinds of downlighters now on the market. these may be hard to obtain yet but will become popular. They use 1 or 3watts instead of 50W and will be nearly as bright. Should be available in most wholesalers before long.
