National Grid/ irelands electricity questions.

hey, im doing a project for school and have 2 questions i was hoping someone could help me with.

1. You know the way there are different electricity suppliers now(esb, airtricity and recently bord gais) and they all put electricity on the national grid. So i sign up to lets say airtricity and start getting billed by them, how does my electricity not come from the esb or bord gais? how do they seperate the different companies electricity??

2. Roughly how much electricity does ireland use on average a day? i cant seem to get a figure anywhere on the net. i know there are big flucuations between seasons etc but could anyone give me a figure?? roughly speaking..

Any help anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated.

All electricity is delivered to customers via 'Esb Networks' who are the company who take your meter readings and submit them to whoever your supplier is. So even if you are an airtricity customers, your power is still coming from a gas turbine somewhere.

The daily usage is around 4000Mega Watts. If fluctuates throughout the day. Generally the daily peck would be 4400Mw. I think the max for ireland was 5220Mw last January.

See below a table of usage throughout the day. Readings taken every 15 minutes. Hope this helps.
