Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Time on my hands again to find a 30+ year old to use daily for a 8 mile commute to Dublin city centre. Came across this Volvo 262C Bertone Coupe. Never seen one before and know nothing about them but looks kind of cool. Worth investigating or run a mile?

I'd rather a Mercedes (W123 or W107) over the Volvo but it is hard to beat if you want something a bit different.

And what will you get for 2 grand anyway... 99 Corolla, 01 Volvo S80..?

    Buy it.

(Being practical, all the running gear is standard stuff, but if you prang it and need body panels or some interior bits then you may have a problem... but for 2 grand...)

I wouldn't be a fan myself but its definitely distinctive. They look slightly weird in the flesh - you can tell that it was an afterthought and not a thoroughly thought out design. Most that I've come across have been very rusty (they were built by Bertone and I suspect that the rustproofing wasn't perfect). The PRV V6 has camshaft issues (especially the early models) and won't ever do the huge mileage of the 'pure' Volvo engines of that era. On the other hand, there must be plenty of enthusiast owned cars that would be very well kept. The 264 sister model wasn't a ball of fire and was heavy enough on fuel from what I remember... lots of body parts (door skins etc) are probably unique to that model.

interesting car, I first saw one as a teenager and thought it was some kind of gangsta car with it's low roof.... in fact, the one you show here, I had an interest in, but the seller never responded to my emails, I wanted to know the date of registration, with it being a 1979, didn't want to pay the duty on it unless it was over 30 years old

Looks like something the mafia would drive!

Thanks for all the advice, like CamperMan I've yet to receive a reply from the seller so we'll have to wait and see. But 245 knows his Volvos so doesn't seem so keen, the rust and mechanical issues he mentions may put me off, if I ever get a reply from the seller to even consider that is!

You don't buy classic cars for fuel economy really... And if you do, buy a 2CV
    :p:p:p

I hope that I wasn't too negative. My comments were intended to be more cautionary than anything else - I'm sure that like anything else there are good ones and bad ones. I think that later incarnations of that engine had less camshaft issues (harder lobes or followers?) but I don't think I've ever heard of a properly high mileage example (say over 200k miles). No harm to check it out and see what you think. Your mileage is low so its probably less of an issue in any case.

That's because the driver gets a crick in their neck after a half hour or so. ;)

Loved these as a young fellah - remember lusting over one in Belguim in 1980. With the passage of time, the roofline just looks a bit daft. Could make a great euro-lowrider all the same!

Well no replies to any emails sent so either the seller isn't genuine or just plain lazy, either way its off the list! Found a MB W123 that might suit though - started a new thread on that one.

Thanks to all for the advice anyway.
