Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Great idea! It will be my 7th time there (for the Fringe festival every time).
August is defo the best time to go because of the fringe so maybe next year we can get something organised?

I did suggest a trip abroad over a year ago but no-one was really interested, sounds like things are changing though :)

Anyone have an idea what the thing at ground level is highlighted in the red box in the photo below from google maps? I noticed it while in town today, it looks like a shallow font with the word Maorai engraved into it?

I know it's an old picture but the only one I could find of it was on Google Maps.

Can't see anything in the pic! never noticed it before.

Its a very old water trough for stray dogs around the city if memory serves. I havent looked at it up close in years but the letters must spell out "madrai"?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,519 ✭✭✭mudokon

Yeah the pic isn't very good and if I go any closer it gets blurry. It's under the Zerep window and goes back a small way.

Thanks SeaFields, I'd tried different spellings but nothing seemed to come up in google for any that I tried.

Spot on as i remember my father telling me that years and years ago walking home from the old Capital cinema.

This pic shows it a little more clearly (grey block in the alcove under the window) but still not great. The front section is where Madrai is engraved.

There was a thread here about those last year i think. There's a few of them around the city centre if i remember correctly. I think they are a nice little touch.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,519 ✭✭✭mudokon

If I remember correctly that thread was about the Ward Signs. It's a shame that all the pics have disappeared from that thread. Unless I missed a thread on the water troughs.

One and the same surely? Hard pressed to find someone who does that I'd say, isn't there certain risks associated with gas that there not with injections? Little comfort to someone terrified of needles though! Thank god dentist has never been a fear of mine - I'm happy to let them drill, inject and scrape away!

Bishop's finger is widely sold in Ireland :)
What beer, well I'm in Belgium so too many to name but Leffe, Stella, Hoegarden, Duvel and Tripel Karmalite are my favourites. We make leffe and Stella in our brewery :)

As a brewmaster King Tut, would you have been insulted if the queen didn't drink a pint you had carefully pored, or would it bother you?

Yes I would be unless it was Guinness because it is sh*t and not worth serving to anyone let alone the queen. ;)

Thankfully I do not make Guinness! :D

In Ireland - Miller / Heineken , sometimes Corona.
In Belgium - Duvel / Stella Artois / Hoeggarden / Triple Karmalitte

    Yours?
