I think it's a case of number=letter
I suppose mine and yours are different cause we gave different numbers.
I dunno how he "formed" the code and I have no idea what the letters that just appeared could mean.

Ok one person has pm'd me with the correct solution....

Here is a hint - The numbers are actually letters and the letters are actually numbers.

Mik the dash indicates that all those numbers are part of a word....

i.e.

1-2-3-4 would be the word TALK if 1=T, 2=A, 3=L and 4=K
