Wow they sure know who to coin a snappy title.

More seriously is this news that can be the start of a potenialy significant development strand turning WIT into MIT (lite) or just a minor project? And where are the other four clusters?

    Tánaiste defends €24m research spend

"Ms Coughlan highlighted the Waterford investment, the first cluster to be established at an institute of technology. Each cluster has at least one academic partner and one or more firms attached to it. The partners collaborate in research with the expectation that new products would arise."

hopefully this is the 1st real step towards long overdue University Status coupled with increased funding towards research

I also know for a fact that these awards were made on merit and on the ability to deliver the highest quality research, as opposed to some sort of regional hand-out. The fact that this kind of investment is coming into WIT at a time like this tells a lot.

one of the pieces of research is into the futureof the city centre -
Wit & chamber of commerce got together 10 businesses inc City Square - Georges Court, Mulligans, Shaws, Revolution, and a few others
they plan to organise focus groups to see how the cty centre can be improved - how and why pople shop in city - and how ofter -

calculate footfall figures for each area of the city - shopping & night time area -
then make recommendations on the possible futuer trends in the city - and use ot to steer city council in the right direction

i hope they come up with good suggestions, because they could count the current footfall in the city centre (even relative to this time last year) on their hands!! OK, on a Saturday afternoon they might need to use their toes too!! :-)
