    Hi,
I've just 'come down' with Plantar Fasciitis, well I'm two weeks in to it. I'm also in the market for a new pair of trainers as I suspect my current pair (Gel Nimbus) are worn (may have encouraged the PF). It's not as bad as I've had it before and I'm hoping it'll ease shortly. I was thinking of travelling up to Bray on Sunday to have my gait analysed at Amph King, as I've never had it done before and I'm curious as to whether my runners are right for me. It's a 180 mile return trip. Is it a bad idea to go for gait analysis while injured. The thing is, my foot doesn't seem to hurt when I'm barefooted, only when I've got my runners with orthotics on. I believe they do the gait analysis in your barefeet. Alternatively, does anybody know anyone good that does gait analysis in the Waterford region?

I have no experience of Amphibian king but I went to a sports physio near Chez Ks at the time who referred me to Cheryl O Neill on the quay. Got orthotics made and more or less solved the problem, but the ones I got are too hard and hurt over longer distances. I didn't go back as I moved out of waterford etc.

Given that Amphibian King is specific for running, I think it is worth the trip for a service tailored for running.
The link below gives a list of podiatrists in the Waterford area.

If you do make the trip just make sure to call ahead and book a specific appointment time. That way you're guaranteed one to one service regardless of how busy the shop is.

There is outfield sports in Carrick on Suir as well. I've not been there but it's advertised on run Ireland (I think it was I saw it) although they are not open Sundays.

I think they have a 20euro charge for doing it but if you buy runners there then the 20euro is taken off the price again you would be best to ring
then for more info and a booking

    hope it helps

Why not ring Amphibian King and ask them? Damien who owns the shop sometimes checks in here, so maybe he'll see this thread.

    Spins,

There's no need to go to Bray. John Dineen Dynamic Chiropractors (behind the Spar near Morris' Builders) will do gait analysis.

I have only been to see him once so far but he has come highly recommended and in my first visit he came across as a really, really bright young guy. He analysed my kee problems precisely (it was unbelievable really how spot on he was) , I'm going back to him on Monday for gait analysis, so if you'd like I'll let you know how I get on.

It cost me 70 euros for my first visit - you'd nearly save that on petrol by not driving to Bray.

Are you sure it's Plantar Fasciitis? I thought that Plantar Fasciitis would be at it's worst when you are in your bare feet.

i went to AK in Bray last summer, they do the analysys for free. You run in your runners and they suggest wich runners give most support etc. they were very helpfull

    Hey Spins,

did you say othotics? What sort have you got - custom or off the shelf? Might be better to go get gait analysis done with an orthotics specialist. Another thing about gait analysis is there seems to be two types - one where they take a video of you running and check out the alignment of your feet as you hit the ground and take off, and the other with sensor strips inserted in your shoes to determine the distribution of weight as you walk or run. I've had both done and would certainly recommend the latter as being more informative in determining the best solution in terms of orthotics or modified running shoes. Advice would be to check which type of analysis is provided - there is also a cost difference between the two options - the video analysis is cheaper and sometimes free if you buy running shoes at the same time. Look after those feet - they're the only ones you're ever likely to have!

I suffered from this while running Dublin last year...i found ultrasound in my physio helped no end...it didn't get rid of it 100% but took the pain out enough for me to continue training!
