Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

hey I was wondering if anyone could clarify the new procedure for using a scooter relating to the licenses

I understand you have to do a certain Theory test but do i need a further test once I receive my provisional??

Theory test to apply for your provisional, in order to get a full licence you need to do the practical driving test.

You need to do the theory test for bikes (M,A1,A) and then apply for a permit. If you are over 18 you are much better appling for the A permit and if under 18 apply for A1. The M licence, if you get it, is restrict to bilkes under 49cc and speed limited to ~50km/h. They are doing a trial of Compulsory Basic Training at the moment so you may need to do this. Then get some lessons and apply for the test and hopefully you pass.

The Compulsory Basic Taining is under consideration at the moment, and has not been signed into law yet.

I think we will see it becoming law soon.

    So, at the moment:
    - Do the theory test, and apply for your learners permit.
    - After 6 months you can do you full licence.

It goes without saying that you should get lessons, etc.

Do you have a full B (car) licence and if so, when did you get it? You may already be licenced to ride a category M (moped under 45km/h) vehicle. If not, then as above, apply for category A (assuming you're over 18) theory, pass that then apply for practical on whatever you want to ride but if possible, get lessons on a category A motorcycle and do the test on that so you will never have to do any further testing should you want to 'step up' from a 45km/h scooter (this would include 'big scooters' which are great commuter vehicles).
