Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

St Patrick's Festival - Photographer Opportunities and Competition

This went out on twitter earlier today... but for those that didn't see it:

We've pulled out all the stops on this one and have managed to get a good few opportunities for the photoblogging community for the St Patrick's Festival this year.

Some of you may remember the Guinness Storehouse and Festival of World Culture competitions we did last year, this year we're doing something on a larger scale for the St Patrick's Festival. But as usual we aimed to make sure that we got something to give back to the community.

In short, we've managed to get priority access for photographers for the parade on March 17th and have a couple of very special passes to give away:
    • 20 bloggers and photobloggers will be invited to watch the St Patrick's Festival parade from a vetted viewing area. Each will be given an official wristband to gain access to this exclusive VIP area.
    • 4 bloggers and photobloggers will be invited to watch the parade from the Festival Grandstand.
    • 2 photobloggers will be invited to join the world media and take photos of the parade from the elevated position from the official open topped Media Bus which is positioned on the parade route.
    • 2 Pixie users will chosen (subject to a security check) and given a Golden Pass which provides exclusive access to the parade route on the day. Only 12 Golden Passes will be issued this year to the international media and this is the first time photographers outside of the national and international media have been invited on into the parade route. This is HUGE.

Full details on how to get involved here: http://pix.ie/blog/2009/02/27/st-patricks-festival-competition-and-pixie-party

The Golden Passes will be given to 2 Pixie users who we think will make the best use of them. Please leave a comment on that post with your Pixie username if you would like be be added to the list.

Just to be clear, it is very likely that the competition (which has prizes of Canon cameras and printers worth around €1,800) will require that you allow the St Patricks Festival a limited license to use the photos entered (details to be confirmed). They are being really generous by giving us access that would normally be given only to international professional media so I have no issue making sure that they are also getting something out of this in return. It has to work both ways. I fully expect these prizes to be won by a boardsie... :)

Also be aware that for the Golden Passes, the festival organisers will need to do a security check on all people with access to the parade route.

Please also leave a comment on that blog post if you'd like us do try to do more of this sort of thing. It took us a long time and a lot of effort so we need to know if people are interested or not! The more comments on the post, the more we can use it to show other potential festivals etc in the future.

See you at the party! (250 Pixie users are being invited to go to the Guinness Storehouse party for FREE :D)

Please make sure you leave a comment on the Pixie blog post if you want to be included on the list. This goes for the photographer parade passes and the free tickets to the party in the Guinness Storehouse afterward. We'll be using the commenter's email addresses to send out details closer to the time.

AND if you are not a Pixie user, don't be shy we can make room for a few Flickr users too. ;)

We have ONE wristband left for the parade on Tuesday and a good few tickets for the Guinness Storehouse afterward for photographers. All you have to do is put your name down over here: http://pix.ie/blog/2009/02/27/st-patricks-festival-competition-and-pixie-party (this blog post has been updated with the names of people who have already secured places). I'll be sending out info re: GSH to people on that list later today.

If you have taken photos of any of the SPF events including Skyfest, Denny events, Spheres etc the St Patrick's Festival have a competition running: See http://pix.ie/group/stpatricksfestival for details (disclaimer: they are requesting that they be allowed use entries for marketing and publicity purposes for next year's festival)

    Marcus
