Paddy's day in NZ

What's the story with paddy's in NZ does anyone know? We're in Napier now but were thinking of headin to wellington for paddy's but as there is no holiday and its not quite celebrated here would it be worth going down? will it just be another tuesday? Anybody there last year? Cheers.

can't speak for wellington, but christchurch always has a fair buzz around the place in paddy's day. that said, the irish pubs here are often regarded as a place to be on nights out in general.
