It's a very bad thing, actually. The private sector is what's keeping the country afloat at the moment, and increasing corporation tax is likely to have the effect of reducing the size of the private sector. Our tax revenues are bad enough as it is, they don't need further aggravation.

For what it's worth; do you care to explain how exactly foreign investment is an 'artificial bubble waiting to burst'? The likes of Dell et al. are merely behaving rationally - they're moving to a cheaper location, much like a person might downgrade apartment if they cannot keep up with rent. To diagnose the problem as 'fickleness' just reeks of misguided blame. The real issue that needs to be addressed is the cost of doing business here.

They are fickle, what we should be doing as a nation is not just upskilling our workforce, but we should be generating Irish MNC's, here in Ireland.

I don't get this. If we were to magically create Irish MNC, doing what exactly?, I don't see what logical and business reason they would base their business in Ireland.
If Irish MNCs are to be the same as US MNC, they should move their base of operations to the country with lowest cost of busines, tax which would not be Ireland seeing as you want to increase corporation tax.

What donegalfella and ongarite is completely true. Theres no point in pretending that MNCs would stay here because of some sense of loyalty.

Consider what U2 did: simply moved abroad to avoid the high tax and poor level of services here. Money is always going to be a motivating factor, the bottom line is the most important thing to buisness people (and rightly so).

Its not like Ireland has great infrastructure, cheap labor and a low cost of living. The low corporation tax is all we have.

I dont even see how this could be debated :)

I don't have time to read through 11 pages, but has it been mentioned that lots of company's have set up European headquarters here to avail of our tax rate. Small three/four man offices which funnel funds through Ireland. Simply by raising corp tax rates you would see these businesses quietly leave. But when the money being funneled through was in the billions, you would sorely miss the insane tax revenue we were getting(that other country's made).
