Ladbrokes odds on the words Gordon Brown will use during his speech to US Congress this Wednesday. Thought it was interesting and a bit of fun! Any thoughts?

    Afghanistan 1/5
    Bail Out 8/1
    Bank Of England 11/8
    Bernanke 11/10
    Blair 6/4
    Boom and Bust 20/1
    Chancellor 5/4
    Credit Crunch 5/4
    David Beckham 50/1
    European Union evens
    Fat Cats 25/1
    Fife 20/1
    Ford 16/1
    G7 5/4
    Gaza 6/1
    God 5/1
    Guantanamo 2/1
    Hard Working Families 3/1
    Home Secretary 10/1
    Iraq 1/4
    Keynes 20/1
    Lehman Brothers 3/1
    Nine-Eleven 1/2
    Osama Bin Laden 16/1
    Protectionism 2/1
    Prudent 3/1
    Scotland 6/1
    Sir Fred Goodwin 100/1
    Snow 4/6
    Special Relationship 1/6
    Starbucks 100/1
    Terrorism 1/3
    Time for Novices 33/1
    Tories 33/1
    Yes We Can 16/1
    FDR 8/1
    Man Of Vision 16/1

Blair made a similar speech in 2003, so you can guage how long the speech will be, and there's alot of discussion about what Brown is going to be talking about online. Seems like it's going to be mostly based on the global financial crisis, very little on Iraq/Afganistan/Terrorism, probably just a passing mention. Plenty of praise and reference to Obama and US/British unity.

But to hell with all that! Think I'll have a go on "Scotland" at 6/1, I fancy him to slip that in there at the start, probably as part of a bad joke to warm things up. Also "European Union" at evens. "Afganistan" will surely get a mention but at them odds and since it's only for a bit of fun I'll give that a miss.

    Also "European Union" at evens.

If saying 'EU' would be considered the same thing then it's about 1/50 that he mentions it.

    Is this still going ahead?

I'd lump into European Union at evens. There's a huge GAERC metting next week as well as an ECOFIN meeting.

I'm putting my whole ladbrokes account on it (not that much in fairness). Thanks for the spot OP

If I had more, and the market was still there, I'd have lumped absolutely.

He mentioned europe about 6 times (calling Barack the most pro-Europe president in a while) but didn't go the whole hog.

I still reckon the bet was value, so fair play (again) to the OP.
