Buying US dollars- where??

Need to buy about 1,500 dollars. Where would be the best place to do this?? Here or in the states? Also im not great on exchange rates etc but it seems the rate has just changed and not in my favour. I need the cash in the next few days, should i wait and hope for the exchange rate to change? Cheers!
