    Finals day.
First three in each group go into the Bowl, Plate and Cup respectively.
Ireland must finish third at least to progress.

No everyone plays again. We're the best finishing 4th placed team so I think we'll be against the Arabian Gulf in the quarters of the bowl.

Ireland through to the Bowl Final against Zimbabwe.
We beat Arabian Gulf in the QF 24-5 and then beat Hong Kong 22-15 in the SF

Hehe, I got an (unfortunately small) bet on Kenya at 50/1 before the whole thing started :D They've a damn good sevens team, its great to see.
Nice to see Ireland through to the bowl final, it was a pretty poor 7s squad though.

It would be a great moment in rugby if Kenya go onto the final and beat Wales!

Been dipping in and out of this, struck by the competitive nature of the comp with teams like Georgia, Portugal etc...displaying huge skills and fitness levels..

What also struck me is the exceptionally high skill the womens' teams have...no lack of commitment or ferocity there...impressive. WOuldnt want to meet any of them down a dark alley..or hang on...maybe I would;).

Ireland lost because they didn't get the finger out.

Watched Ireland's game with Zimbabwe earlier and saw the Australia game yesterday. Maybe this merits a new thread but does anyone think we should have a team on the IRB Sevens circuit? I know funding is an issue but when you look at the names of the some of the players that have played it, it is obviously a good ground for improving players ball skills.

Judging from Ireland's performances compared with other teams it is maybe something which would be good for young backs or loose forwards in the Irish game.

Maybe enter a team consisting of Academy or young A players from the provinces. It would be worth a go for a year or 2 anyway and see how we get on or if any new talent emerges.

ALSO, assuming Sevens does eventually make it to the Olympics if we do have a competitive team (which we are capable of producing), it is a sport where Irish Olympic medals could be won - instead of boxing.

    Opinions?

You don't just "go" onto the Sevens Series circuit. There are qualifications involved and there are currently teams already established there. If one of them dropped out then maybe its a possibility. Until then, this is how it is.

Australia beat New Zealand in the women's cup final. No swapping jerseys at the end though.

A lot of kicking in this final so far, particularly from Argentina. Wales lead 12-7

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,416 ✭✭✭chupacabra

Not a bad trip for the boys, 3 wins to 3 losses, and a great performance against the wallabies. Good considering we're not series regulars.

Wales win 19-12. Both teams look totally wrecked. Argentina missed a few chances. They knocked on twice in front of the try line in the first half.

Hopefully the last thing Wales win this season.

Some of the Argentinians were nutters. They never once stopped backchatting at the ref despite his decisions being bang on the button.

Oh great, Wales won, I can see it now, Johnathan Davies and all the Welsh pundits go on about "the great Welsh talent coming through" and how "Gatland and Wales will benefit form this achievement" and all the other BS.

You know what, I can't wait till Ireland beat seven shades of sh!te out of the Welsh, with their seriously overated Kiwi coach and bald headed rugby league asswipe.

I can't wait to see Gavin Henson in tears when he discovers that he isn't a superstar player after Munster "deal" with him at TP in HEC QF.

    *End of Rant*

Hold awhile now, stall the ball, hold your horses, calm down. I for one am happy to see a team outside of the big four of rugby sevens take the world cup, it shows that sevens is a really competitive game and bodes well going forward for its inclusion into the Olympics, which is what we all want to see correct?

And as for Henson, i hate him as much as the next guy and i hope the lads knock the fake tan off him, but do you really think that man is capable of producing tears? Im afraid his tear ducts are probably blocked by the bullsh1t
that comes out of his mouth by now. :p

You should move to Wales. There are many more over there like you than here.
And for your information, a rugby league ex-player is on the Irish coaching setup doing wonders with the Irish team's defence and backline.

I don't care who wins it so long as its a good contest. If NZ won it then fair dues to them.
I don't do the convenient tribalism thing as I think its pathetic.
