Interesting read, it highlights how people are so desperate for a job now that they are willing to pursue any job even if they are well overly skilled for. And we as a nation must now take action and choose the candidates’ in the local elections wisely. There has never been so many of our best people unemployed. These people are a wasted resource standing in dole queue when they could be leading us out of this recession. Engineers, architects, project managers and maybe some bankers who never previously enter politics now have opportunity, Constructive thinkers (we don’t have any in government) who are trained and have track records of solving problems and seeing projects through on time and under pressure. If you are unemployed and are skilled at managing projects solving problems and basically getting jobs done and moving forward, please put yourself forward for election. Its local politics close to home if you are good at it, a general election is only around the corner and you have the groundwork laid for getting into the Dáil and having some real influence.

There will be up to 1000 of these jobs coming available in either June or May evenly distributed among the population and most people are allowed to apply. The question is? Are they suitable and do the right people have the confidence to enter politics.

Our current local politicians’ do not have a right to their positions and in an ideal democracy there should be real competition for these positions. Your local councilor does not have a permanent job no matter how well you know him, Ask yourself is he/she the best person for that job. If people continue to vote for the same old councilors they know and are familiar with then what changes do you really expect from them. It about time people start to stir things up the right way, we don’t need to go rioting on the streets like the Greeks; it achieved nothing.

    Salary?

In recent years a financial support framework has been introduced for Councilors in Ireland which involves:
    • Representational payment (i.e., a salary-type payment) Don’t know how much?
    • Fixed annual allowance (towards meetings and other expenses)
    • Ad-hoc expenses (i.e., conferences and other events)
    • Retirement gratuity (i.e., lump sum on retirement)
The Cathaoirleach of the Council and the chairperson of one of the local authority committees (the Special Policy Committee) also receive an additional allowance.

To find out what local politics is all about follow the link for a short description

    http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/government-in-ireland/local-and-regional-government/councillors

“If you wish to be nominated to stand for election to a local authority in Ireland, there is a specific week in which you must be nominated. This week takes place 4 weeks before the polling day. Local elections recently took place in Ireland on 11th June, 2004. The next date for local elections will be in 2009.
You may nominate yourself or be nominated by a local government elector registered in the area. You may be nominated to stand in more than one area.
If you are a member of a political party, you must submit a Certificate of Party Affiliation with your nomination form.
If you are an independent candidate, you must have your nomination paper signed by 15 "assenters". These are persons registered to vote in the local authority - they cannot include yourself or the person who nominated you.”

Best of Luck I will vote for anybody who has a real track record achieving success honestly.
