    Murphy Joins Ireland Squad

Bohemians’ super-keeper Brian Murphy will end his time with Bohemians on a new high. He was today (Friday 6th November) called into the Ireland squad for the two World Cup qualifiers against France following the withdrawal of Coventry City’s Keiren Westwood.

Brian Murphy goes into his last game with Bohemians tonight against Bray Wanderers with a remarkable goalkeeping record: 63 clean sheets in 96 games. The 26-year-old will leave Bohemians after the season, joining Roy Keane’s English Championship side Ipswich Town in January. Brian Murphy has previously been capped for Ireland at under-19, under-20 and under-21 levels.

Do you think Trap is pulling a fast one here? With Murphy becoming an Ipswich player at the end of the season which is today for Bohs does that make him an ipswich Keeper for the France match? and will be an ex league of ireland player in the squad like doyle etc and not like when jason byrne or glen crowe got called up.
Congrats to him anyway and congrats on the league win.

doubt it matters but hes not an ipswich player till jan 1st.

Murphy doesn't become an Ipswich player until Jan when the window opens up again.

Have to say credit to the Bohs fans last night. After getting on the high horse with Rovers fans over the game in Tallaght you then go and get the game stopped against Bray. As if that wasn't enough then you go an blame it on Rovers fans on a well known radio talk show. Quality.

Word is that Bohs have progress on the sale of Dalymount.
It seems a deal will now go ahead.
Looks like a new stadium on the way.
    Fingers crossed. :)

It's hilarious really - a crumbling and dangerous wall falls down when Rovers fans surge forward to celebrate a goal in Bray and we're slaughtered for it. Bohs rip up seats, and smash the place up and 'it wos Wrexham'.

Great season for bohs especially to put one over on rovers!!!!! highlight of the season for me was prob the last couple of games where word got through that rovers were losing to cork and drawing with galway!!!!! the lowlight was losing in tallaght twice but the worst was salzburg, ive never felt so upset after a football match than i did after that game.to go so close and lose in last 5 minutes was heartbreaking and look at where they are now:(

Glen crowe been released is a sad point, lots of memorys there especially all his goals against rovers and in europe he will be missed.

brian murphy, wel never see the like of him again in this league, legend hope he does well in england and pushes the other keepers for a spot in the irish team!!!

As for the bray incident, i wasnt there but wrexham werent involved likewise they werent involved in tallaght so get over the fact and stop using them as an excuse!!!!!

Someone on thebohs.com poted that according to then sun, Gary Deegan, Paul Keegan, Brian Shelley, Owen Heary and Glenn Cronin have all agreed to sign new contracts, though they won't actually sign until December 1st.

    Fantatic if true.

Still in talks with Ndo aswell (once again according to the sun.)

McGuinness, Oman, Byrne, Brennan and A. Murphy are still contracted, so we should have most of the squad from last season.

Hopefully we can sign Barry Murphy to replace Brian and if Powell signs a new contract we've got a title winning starting XI imo

    THE BOH WAR!
Champs fire back as Rovers question spending

    by PHILIP QUINN

THEY may have been close in the Premier Division table, but
relations between League of Ireland rivals Shamrock Rovers
and Bohemians are today strained to breaking point.
After the demise of Derry City and Kildare County, the latest image of the League is of its two most famous clubs engaged in a snarling catftght.
Back-to-back champions Bohs are livid that their Dublin rivals
have lodged an official complaint with the FAI querying their levels
    of spending since 2005.

The Hoops have sought assurances from the FAI that bigspending Bohs have always stayed within the salary cap protocol that
limits clubs to spending no more than 65 per cent of turnover on
players' salaries. Rovers do not accuse Bohemians
of anything untoward, nor do they offer any proof of wrongdoing, but
it is clear they have misgivings about the sums their rivals spent
between 2005 and 2008. Bohs official Gerry Conway is
adamant the Gypsies have played things by the book but the FAI
have taken note of Rovers' remarks and will be putting them to Bohs,
and their club auditors, at their next meeting.
Rovers have highlighted a number of areas of concern: specifically, the
sums Bohs have spent on training facilities, on fielding under-age
teams and in fund-raising, where their costs have jumped by 1,900
per cent from 2005 to 2008. In their letter to the FAI's
compliance officer, Padraig Smith, Rovers also point out that Bohs
continue to have four members on their bar staff even though their sed from
    €77,000 in 2005 to €30,000 in 2008.

They note that Rovers spent €428,555 on wages to their man-
agement staff in 2008, an increase of 50 per cent, and managed to do
all this while "keeping their salary spend on players within
the FAI's 65 per cent limit. Rovers are puzzled that
Bohs had to pay €190,000 for training facilities in 2008 —
Rovers' own outlay is about €35,000, for facilities at Peamount and
Sacred Heart in, Tallaght — and that covers their first team, A team and Under 20s.
And they are mystified at how it cost . Bohs €130,000 'to run their
schoolboy teams last year. In comparison, it cost Rovers 640,000 to
field 22 teams, while Bohs run 15. Conway, the Bohs secretary, said
he was 'outraged' at Rovers meddling in Bohs' financial affairs.
'It's a bit rich that Rovers should be interfering into our business.
This is a club who submitted false accounts a few years ago and went
    into examinership.
'We've nothing to answer here. I'm fully satisfied we can stand
over our figures. Our accounts are audited by auditors who operate
under the laws of chartered accountants,' he added.
Conway, who only became aware of Rovers' letter when contacted
by Sportsmail yesterday, rebutted the points they raised.
'The training facilities at DCU are among the best anywhere in
the country. The arrangement we nave includes access to me
elite athletic facilities also used by the Dublin footballers. We have access to
dieticians, nutritionists, physios, doctors — and all that comes at a price.' Conway accepted the schoolboys outlay was steep but said the club forked
out €60,000 in 2008 on kitting out teams.
'There is nothing hidden there,' he vowed. 'We showed we spent over
€1.9m on players' wages in 2008. How up front is that?' Ill-feeling has existed between the clubs for months but off-field issues were parked as the teams
went toe for toe for the title. Rovers have felt a sense of resentment towards their northside rivals after they opposed the prestige friendly bringing Real Madrid in Tallaght in July.
There was further discord when Bohs felt Rovers striker Graham
Barrett was acting unofficially as a players' agent after allegedly
approaching Brian Shelley about a possible move to the English
League — a claim Rovers denied. Bohs also claimed midfielder
Joseph Ndo was subjected to racist abuse from Rovers fans in
last month's clash at Tallaght — the claim was unsubstantiated.
According to Conway, Bohs have stayed constantly under the 65 per
cent SCP limit but if the FAI's compliance department finds the
sums don't add up, there could be repercussions for the Gypsies.
FAI compliance chief Smith explained last night that the finan-
cial statement submitted by Bohs for the year ending November 30,
2008 had been signed off by auditors Whelan Bowling and Associ-
ates, who said they presented a'true and fair view of the state of
the company's affairs'. He added: 'While the comments
forwarded to us by Shamrock Rovers present no evidence of
financial irregularity, in keeping with the FAI's financial monitoring
process we will raise these points during our next scheduled meeting
with the club and their auditors.'

The episode is the latest postscript to the financial morass into
which the League has sunk. After the difficulties of former
title winners Shelbourne, Cork City and Drogheda United in
recent years, another scandal involving the champions is the last
    thing the League needs.

ll! BOHS midfielder Joseph Ndo could be the first close-season
    signing for newly-promoted Sporting Fingal.

    HEY, BIG SPENDER
    Where Bohs'cash went in 2008
    Training expenses: €190,883
    (up €30,364 on 2007)
    Underage teams €130,816
    (up €114,971 on 200T)
    Fund-raising: €94,525
    (Up €89,875 on 2007)
    Team management and staff:
    €428,555 (up €139,116)

What is happening at Bohs that these men and dogs know more about than bohs members? Other than budget cuts while attempting to retain most of last seasons squad.

I say Rovers are glad they dont have to publish as detailed accounts.

In other news, Bohs top the fair play rankings: http://www.extratime.ie/newsdesk/articles/2787/
The Football Association of Ireland have announced the final Fair Play League final placing for 2009. League of Ireland, Premier Division champions, Bohemians scooped the Premier Division award while Shamrock Rovers finished as runners-up. In the League of Ireland 1st Division, U.C.D finished on top of the Fair Play League with Galway’s Mervue United finishing in second place.

The respective divisional winners will each receive prize money of €4,500 with the respective runners-up receiving prize money of €2,000.

In its efforts to promote fair play, UEFA award three extra places in the 1st qualifying round of the Europa League to the domestic Fair Play winners from the top three Associations in the UEFA Fair Play League which will be published in May 2010.

Should Ireland finish in the top three places of the UEFA Fair Play League, due to the fact that Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers will be already representing the League of Ireland in UEFA competitions next year; the remaining place will go to the highest placed team in the Fair Play League. As Drogheda United and Galway United finish tied for third in the Fair Play League on 1093 points, a drawing of lots would have to take place to decide which team would advance to the Europa League, 1st qualifying round.

    Premier Division Standings
    1 BOHEMIANS 1120
    2 SHAMROCK ROVERS 1098
    3 DROGHEDA UNITED 1093
    3 GALWAY UNITED 1093
    5 CORK CITY 1068
    6 DERRY CITY 1066
    7 BRAY WANDERERS 1046
    8 SLIGO ROVERS 1042
    9 ST. PATRICK'S ATHLETIC 1005
    10 DUNDALK 999

    First Division Standings
    1 UCD 1034
    2 MERVUE UNITED 1018
    3 LIMERICK 1017
    4 WATERFORD UNITED 1016
    5 WEXFORD YOUTHS 993
    5 FINN HARPS 978
    7 MONAGHAN UNITED 978
    8 SPORTING FINGAL 975
    9 LONGFORD TOWN 968
    10 SHELBOURNE 958
    11 ATHLONE TOWN 949

Come off it would ya. So the bohs members know nothing about the amount of football talent found amongst its bar staff and car park attendants. Attendances in the dog house yet magically Bohs still manage to stay within the 65% wage cap during a season which they needed a dig out from teh FAI to pay their players. Lets not even mention the leaked email thread discussing how this will not go into the books.

Rovers have publised detailed accounts and like all clubs are due to publish the detailed accounts in the coming weeks. The differences between Rovers and bohs is that we have a fraction of your wage bill yet have the attendances to cover it.

Will be interesting now when the 50% cap takes effect as this also covers management and staff. I wonder how many Bohs staff will be registered as volunteers.

As has been said on this forum before so many bohs fans are pure head in the sand people. Sooner or later its going to bite you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,881 ✭✭✭bohsman

The bars have been steadily run into the ground since a certain director took over, we couldn't pay volunteers with the profits - the Bavaria deal doesnt help. Its common knowledge that one player is paid as a coach - he isn't allowed to play professionally. Youth set up question has been answered. Seeing as we rent the car park out to the Mater I doubt we're involved in hiring staff. It looks as if we are only going to get tunder the 65% due to an amazing amount of fundraising over the last few months btw.

First Ive heard about the 50% but Id say that thats where we will be next season either way.

I think the saddest thing here is that it takes something like this from Rovers to prompt the FAI into life. Surely they should have been probing Bohemians' accounts long before now.

Nice irony about them complaining about 2005s account aswell (or is that 2004)

Very true, was very impressed Keegan the latter half of the season after being rather indifferent towards him at first. Really took charge in a lot of games and was huge during Deegans suspension.

I think Ruaidhri Higgins was brought in to replace Deegan ie creative type player. I've never seen him play though so we'll have to see

    Signings so far

    Chris O'Connor (Bray Wanderers)
    Stephen Gray (Derry City)
    Ruaidhri Higgins (Derry City)
    Gareth McGlynn (Derry City)
    Raffael Cretaro (Sligo Rovers)
    Barry Murphy (Shamrock Rovers)
    Mark Quigley (St Pat's Ath)

Aaron Greene went to Spain with the rest of the team so another potential addition.

A few rumours on this, going home to Cameroon as his family are there, was on trial in Belgium and was told to move elsewhere to have some world cup hopes, still in touch with Fenlon apparently.

Thanks, shame though, always thought he was a great player when he put the effort in and on his day was the best player in the league by a mile. Would be nice if he got into Cameroons world cup squad but can't see it happening.
