Canon Ixus would be my recommendation, I've had an Ixus50 and have had my Ixus60 for the past couple of years. It goes everywhere with me and always guarentees a great photo.

Funnily enough I was going to say the Canon Ixus before I saw stapeler's post.

My friend has the Ixus 55, I go the 60, my brother got the 70. Can't recommend it highly enough, brilliant camera.

Next for me is the Powershot G10 which is across between an Ixus and an SLR.
