the customer is being asked to pay upfront to ship the laptop to the service centre.
if he had purchased online then that was understandable, but in this isntance the customer bought from a local shop so has the right to return it there, saving himself paying shipping fees. this is one of the main advantages of buying in a bricks and mortar shop.
if there is no issue then you just pick it up, the same as im sure happens for many customers who cant use their tv correctly etc.

my point wasnt that powercity have agents, everyone knows this, my point is that you return it to powercity and they deal with it in whatever way they see fit, whether that is with acer or a local laptop repair shop.

the customer has a faulty item purchased from a retail store, they are entitled to return it to the retail store where purchased for repair, replacement or refund in a reasonable time.

i dont understand why people have these rights given to them by law yet when they ask for advice other people then tell them not excercise their rights and just do what the shop tells them to.

No he's not!!! He's not being asked to do this at all. Nowhere in his postings does it mention this. The only mention made of charging is when Acer told him there would be a charge if there was no hardware defect found with the laptop.

have you ever seen the list of conditions and requirements that you must meet to return a laptop to acer by courier? it is mind-boggling to say the least, (and at the top and bottom of the list is their bold reminders about the standard charges if the fault is found not be covered by warranty in any way. it's as if they intend to make a charge to cover their costs whatever fault they might find.) and completly unneccessary when you can return the laptop to the shop and let them do all the work as they are obliged to do.

The shop could do the same though - they could charge you labour if it turns out there isn't a hardware problem with the laptop.

We have to be a little bit realistic here too. How much did the laptop actually cost?
