Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The former Honda Formula One team has been saved and will contest the 2009 season as Brawn GP.

The Honda Motor Company Limited and ex-Honda boss Ross Brawn have reached agreement to preserve the team.

    That's great news!
Wonder how much did it cost to buy an F1 team?

I am sure I saw a mention of 1$ somewhere
It is not the cost of buying it.. it is the cost of keeping the staff in wages and running costs of the team.
Had Honda shut it down then they would have to honour all redundancy payments and payments to those on contract etc.
Cheapest to sell it off for 1$ to seal a contract ;)

Wonder who else is part of Brawn's consortium. Am very suprised they decided to go with mercedes for its engine- Ross must have left on bad terms with Ferrari!

Mercedes deal with Brawn.. Bets it not all one way.

Mercedes will ' help ' in installation and advise on all sorts of details... in exchange for..............

8 Million quid, Setup/Telemetry data, Kers test/race data(if they get to use it) etc...
I don't think Brawn left Ferrari an that bad terms. In fact the first reports said Stefano Domenicali agreed to supply Brawn then pulled out. I think it is a case of Ferrari not being able to supply more engines, they told Force India they wouldn't be able to supply an engine and gear box deal with increased cooperation this year and they are supplying A1GP (20+ cars) with engines, obviously not the same engines but its still a drain on the resources.

Mercedes are doing as they did in European F3, dominate and have a good source of income and when VW threathened their position last season, threathen to leave.... If Mercedes get adominant hold in F1, it will allow them to have a greater say in rules and regulation. It wasn't that long ago the major manufacturers wanted a break-a-way F1 series. It was stopped by Bernie buying Ferrari's loyalty....

As they say, more than one way to skin a cat.

Ferrari will have sufficient production facilities to supply A1GP, as the F1 engine plant is a seperate unit. Plus, the chassis will be from the F2004 drawings.

8mill for a supply of engines and back up is good value for money...

Sounds about right its defiantly not for the money. Interesting to see that they didn't go for el cheapo Cosworth that the FIA were pushing they didn't even consider it as far as i can tell.(Not sure if it was available this year)

I think people are overcomplicating things somewhat with all the theories floating about.

Brawn already had a car built around the Honda engine - and he's on record as saying they went with Mercedes in the end simply because it was an easier fit for the chassis they had than the Ferrari one.
