I think it might be because the kitchen area is quite tight, would have been hard to maintain distancing at the beginning when we were being told to keep 2m apart constantly.

The Castletroy one is open for takeaways but I think they have a more square/open kitchen area.

I doubt very much food places are following 2 metre rule with the cooking staff in the kitchen at height of service

As someone said on another thread, friends don't let friends read the Leader. They hop on any story that can get them clicks.

In level 3 lockdown, unless you've had a genuine bad experience somewhere, I personally believe we should be doing as much as we can to encourage people to spend local, which means limiting bad publicity/"fake news" (please read in Trump voice) unless warranted.

If someone got food poisoning there, then fair enough, but no point publicising old news.

Are you actually suggesting that what I posted, a link to the leader article, is fake news? Or that they were shut down by the FSA is fake news?

Honestly I'm dumbfounded that you are so agressively trying to sweep a closure order under the carpet like it happens all the time and is nothing serious. The FSA only close down premises when they (the professionals) deem the premises to be a danger to public health, i repeat a danger to public health!!!

In relation to the 2 days, how long was the problem there prior to being shut down and if they weren't shut down would they have ever fixed the problem? Finally if they didn't bother fixing a known problem, that posed a public health risk, what regard do they have for their customers and their health?

    Morning all,

Reporting of the closure notice issued to our Patrick St store on September 8th lacks a little bit of detail, so we felt it was very important to fill in all the gaps and answer any questions.

Firstly, we are deeply sorry this happened. We work extremely hard every day to make sure our restaurants are clean and safe.

The notice was issued because of a drainage issue caused by a blocked waste line running from our restaurant to the main sewer system. No other issues were reported. The blockage in the line caused the system to back up and overflow in the basement area of our building. To be clear, the basement area is separate to the main restaurant area, is not a food preparation/storage area or even accessible to staff.

The issue was immediately investigated by our plumbers, Irish Water and our landlord to determine the core issue and perform repairs. This investigation was hampered because the manhole located under the public walkway which services the line was not accessible. This prevented our plumbers and Irish Water from quickly diagnosing or resolving the issue.

We made a judgement call to isolate the basement area as our team of engineers, specialist cleaning companies, Irish Water and others looked at the issue. Regrettably, as we were working on it, HSE issued a closure notice on September 8th. What should have been a routine repair required 3 days of closure as we could not get access to the manhole.

The blockage was finally cleared on September 9th. During this period, we also invested significantly on upgrading the drainage system and thousands more on industrial cleaning. As an additional step we set up a new service contract on this section of the drainage system over and above local council requirements. We are now confident that the issue will not repeat. The store reopened to the complete satisfaction of HSE on Sep 11th.

We run an industry leading cleaning and food safety management system. Our stores have a 52-point daily management system and are routinely audited by recognised third party specialists. Compliance is monitored centrally, and our Patrick St store is a top performer. We design our systems to ensure compliance with all food safety regulations.

On 19th June 2020 HSE inspected our Patrick St store and awarded it the highest grade possible – GRADE 1: Satisfactory. Furthermore, not even a single minor issue was noted. Every restaurant we operate achieves Grade 1 in Ireland or a 5-star rating in Northern Ireland.

Trust is earned in our industry. We do not take it for granted. Facts are also important. We appreciate all the support provided to this store through a very difficult Covid period. Thankfully, our amazing team in the store are all back to work ensuring we maintain industry leading standards of cleanliness and safety.

    Thank you for listening.

They posted the above on their FB page along with a copy of a letter from the HSE.

Back on topic, I got a takeaway from Kyoto, and it was absolutely top notch. Very impressed with the quality of sushi, as good as you will get anywhere, I would highly recommend it.

Good news on the burrito place. I was fairly confident you'd be able to eat your dinner off their pipes, after a closure order like that. Great to see them addressing the issue publicly. Wouldn't put me off trying the place. Haven't had a chance to yet, but will have to now.

Now that the issue seems resolved, and full disclosure has been made, perhaps we could draw a line under this.

Some posts had been reported, but as the reported posts were all factual, although bad for business I'm sure, and will stay, along with the companies response, which should be enough for everyone.

Is Kyoto a good place to try Sushi for the first time or maybe Taikichi?

It depends! I tried sushi for the very first time in Kyoto. They have some options that might be less intimidating to people who are new to sushi - you could get nigiri with smoked salmon or salmon that has been seared on one side. You could also get vegetarian rolls or rolls with cooked prawn, smoked salmon and avocado etc.

I think Taikichi is very good and we're lucky to have two great sushi spots, but for me it doesn't feel as authentic. They do have better western style rolls, but for the basics, Kyoto is the better of the two imo.

Taikichi are nice. I enjoyed the sushi there.

Possibly the nicest Sushi I've ever had especially considering the reasonable price of it. It's easily as good as some high end places I've been to that charge twice as much

    +1 for Kyoto here.

Their lunch special sushi and sashimi bento box is very good value. Very fresh and we'll prepared anytime I have got it.

Both are great restaurants, I eat out of Kyoto more as I generally go at weekend lunchtimes with kids and it's less packed than taikichi.

Got takeaway from Kyoto on Saturday and it was delicious so would encourage people to support it during these tough times for restaurants. Talking about the place is making me hungry for some tori karage ::drool::

My first choice would definitely be Taikichi for their sushi.

I was sat next to a man from California last time I was there and he said it beat any japanese places he'd been to in LA. He may have just been trying to chat up the waitress though.

If yank tourists opinions were valid, Durty Nelly's would have a Michelin star.

Any nice restaurants doing a takeaway service at the moment for a special occasion dinner?

Wouldn't blame em. The food I got there wouldn't have been the same quality out of a box so they are probably worried about the reputation of the food

Nothing to do with the Buttery why?

Foodwise Spitjack is honestly one of the best restaurants I've been to anywhere and I think it wouldnt be the same quality after sweating in a box in the car home

You haven't been to a lot of restaurants so, Spitjack is OK, not bad, not great, it's very average, definitely not one of the best I've ever been to.

It's exactly the type of food I like so it does it for me. Too many restaurants that aren't centered around Italian or Japanese or whatever just have a glorified pub menu where as they have actually put some interesting stuff in there
