I find Four Star Pizza on the Dock Road great for takeaway.

We went for Top Pizza in the end and were happy enough.

Just discovered the Old Firestation, a vegetarian/vegan café/restaurant in Thomas Street. It must be a new place (I would have come across it before). It's near the top of Thomas Street, not near most of the other cafés/restaurants there. A pleasant place, with good service. I didn't try any of the food but I get the feeling it's done competently.

Went to Shake Dog, aka Rockin' Joes, aka Eddie Rockets on O'Connell St at the weekend. Food was pretty tasty and great value with the Mean Deal - any burger, any fries/side and any shake for 10 quid.

Been in there a few times now and love it. Great spot. Food is delicious, great service and overall high quality.

Good to hear. Thought their menu looked a bit basic when I had a look before, but it's obviously early days and all that. I must call in to check it out. Hope it does well.

I much prefer a limited menu. That way you know they are specialising in quality and not trying to cater for all and sundry.

I went to the Green Yard Cafe in Punches Cross for brunch on Sunday. I had the eggs benedict and the missus had the eggs royale. Massive portions and the food was delicious. Service was also excellent. Will definitely be back again.

Must try and make it down for a few classes of wine some evening as well now that they're open late.

I went into the revamped Enzo's in William Street yesterday. It's a lot smarter now, much more inviting. It's the same layout, but up-to-date decor. Pity the food wasn't that good (cheap, but only just edible fish+chips), so I probably won't try it again.

Has anyone tried the new fish+chips place at the Milk Market (the one that was René Cusack's, and before that Luigi's)?

Frans? Lovely chips and battered sausages. Can't speak for the fish as I don't eat it. Definitely worth a shot

Went there for breakfast. The decor was very nice but it seemed very much style over substance. They don't appear to have thought that much about the food.

The options were extremely limited so went with the "Asian eggs" as it appeared to be the most substantial choice. Eggs with soya sauce, sesame seeds and spring onions and two slices of toast with dairy gold. It was okay but I was really hoping for more, my wife could do better than that in her sleep.

Lunch choices also didn't seem great. I'm okay with a limited seasonal menu as long as the food is good.

I think they need to put more effort into their menu.

Just had take out from Clover in Bedford Row.

I ordered a Japanese ramen dish and the missus ordered a Pad Thai. For two cuisines quite distinct from each other they both tasted like bad Chinese food.

Same dish but with different meats.

    Won't be going back.

That place is the worst restaurant I've been in in Limerick in a long time

Cheap takeout I've frown fond of is Munster Pizza up on Henry street where variuous fast food places have been (Mike & Katies). It's a hard place to judge. Food is pretty good and fairly cheap but a lot of the time they will get your order wrong. Quarter pounder & half pounder from there are some of the nicest burgers I've had in a loing time though.

Story Cafe recently opened up on Denmark Street by two of the guys that used to work in Fitto. Food is very tasty and the staff are very friendly. Defintiely worth trying if you've never been. Has quickly become one of my favourite spots.

Had Zweton in Castletroy the other night myself and my girlfriend has noticed the quality had dipped a little recently ..

Got a takeaway two weeks ago was absolutely rank....pure slop , we got a peppercorn chicken and a chicken curry we put it down to a bad night and sitting in was always fine

Sat in on Saturday for our 10 year anniversery got the same dishs as above and again it was absolutely rank its like the food had been left from the night before the chicken was like a gym mat and the egg fried rice was still hard and have about 2 bits of egg in the whole lot .

Is there any top of the range chinese's in Limerick ? I'd pay more for better food but Im done with the Zweton brand in limerick anyway

Feel the same way about Zweton, albeit that I've only ever tried the one in Annacotty/Newtown. I've given it plenty of chances (as it's one of the closest Chinese restaurants to where I live) and it's been consistently poor. I've long since given up on it and would recommend that you check out Copper & Spice instead. Found it to be really good

Up to about 2 years ago we used to go to the one in Fr.Russel Road and migrated to the castletroy one for the exact same reasons it went downhill fast, and back then the Castletroy one was decent to good its almost as if the fella from Raheen swapped over , where abouts is Copper and Spice might give that a go , Tried Panda Kingdom in town aswell not really great either

Copper & Spice is out in Annacotty, beside the Mill Bar. I'm not a Chinese food connoisseur by any stretch, but I do know that it is a lot better than the fare at Zweton!

Mogul Emperor and Spice of India are the two best Indians I've come across in town

I haven't lived in Limerick for nearly six years and I still get a longing for a feed from Mogul Emperor every now and again.

Didn't realise it was that good, must try it. It doesn't look the most attractive of places from the outside, but never judge a book by it's cover and all that..

Yeah the outside isn't up to much and inside is pretty dated but the food is damn good.
