I'm quite shocked to hear the negative reports on La Piccola, I take the 4 kids there quite regularly and we've always been treated brilliantly even though we'd hardly be the most desirable customers, I think the staff are fantastic to be honest,
    The food is OK.

La piccola is on my no go list after a few meals there slow service food no better than home cooked and tbf it's just a bit dark and dingy in there.

Had a work night in the curraghgower recently great food excellent steak and they have the best scampi in the city.

Was there last night too with my S&S - it was a fantastic meal. Had the sausage and black pudding scotch egg with a really tasty sauce. Had the Burger for mains and a sundae for dessert. Service was slow - took 30 mins for the first plate to be served, but they were busy.

It was hopping when we were there too. They had a crew in on a work night on top of a very busy night. I would say they did a few hundred covers easily.

No activity on here in a while so I thought I'd stir things up (pardon the awful pun). Was at The French Table last weekend for the first time and thought it was really good! Although not in the most fashionable part of town, the setting is actually nice (we had a table beside the window, looking out on to the Shannon). Couldn't fault the service, and the food was excellent. Nice, varied menu with some specialist French cuisine as well as catering for the less adventurous. Great wine selection and good atmosphere - it was a Saturday night and the place was packed (great to see the boom is back :D). I will definitely be returning.

On another note, I was in Azur on Thursday night and, whilst I couldn't fault the food or service, the place was dead. I counted three other tables! Thought it would be a lot busier for a Thursday night...being so quite in there was kind of off-putting tbh.

Has anyone tried the new Thai place that replaced Khing Thai (ZoZabb I think?)?

Went to Spice of India on O'Connell Street Thursday night, and like MC at the French Table, it was dead, we were the only ones there. Maybe Thursday night just isn't a busy night for diners, who knows...

Anyway, the food was excellent, we were a part of 3, I got the lamb madras which was really hot (the way I like it), great texture and taste, garlic naan was great too. My girlfriend got the korma and our Canadian friend the rogan josh. Both love and know their Inidan food and said, while not the greatest Indian they ever had, was still pretty damn good.

Going back to La Piccola, I went on a date there around 10 years ago and swore I'd never return. The server couldn't wait to get us out the door, asking if we were finished when we clearly weren't and once even trying to clear our table without asking. I'd say something but it was 8 PM when we arrived. We saw her an hour later in Mickey Martins, clearly, she wanted to get out of work and have a pint at the expense of customers. Haven't returned since.

Just brought friends to the pizzeria and they loved it. They are pizza fiends so to get a seal of approval from them was a good thing. I had pasta in a creamy tomato sauce and it was beautiful.

Went for dinner in The Buttery the other evening.

Great atmosphere where we arrived with a buzz around and also most tables full.

Quick service, wine and Treaty beer for me arrived shortly after ordering.

We had black pudding deep fried balls with chutney to start along with crab cakes. Small portions for the price, were about €9 each.

Had chicken wings and taco fries for main, large portion of wings, were a bit sweet but tasty all the same. Average taco fries, cheese sauce was a bit sickly to me. We also had the prawn taco's which were very nice with lots of spice but small.

Soem of the burgers that we saw going out looked really good.

All in all an ok meal would go again but maybe for lunch or breakfast.

Had an awesome breakfast another time, one of the best full Irishs in Limerick.

Everything in the Buttery needs to be dropped by a euro or two, or a bit of an increase in the portion size. Apart from that, I can't fault the place.

It's not somewhere I think is worth the hype or gets. It's nice don't get me wrong but I think hook and ladder which is quite similar in the market they aim for is better.

    +1

I've been to H+L (Castletroy) at least once a week for the last two years and 99% of the time I'm satisfied. Whether it's getting grub to fill me up or a quick coffee and a scone. It's always great. Reasonable prices, portions decent, good coffee and fantastic scones and breads.

Chocolat looked closed-for-business last night, when I walked by. Signage removed, etc.

A long time coming really. Standards were low, and dropping, for some time.

Standards had plummeted alright. It's been closed now for a week or two. I'm reliably told that Da Vincenzo's are taking it over.

I had never eaten in there and was about to go in a couple of weeks ago and saw it was closed for renovations when we got to the door. Went across the road to Marco Polo which was beautiful.

Some serious advertising for Texas Steakout on 'Living With Lucy' last night!

Ironic given its run by the same people.

Called in yesterday for a coffee and was really impressed with the place, lots of space now - which is in stark contrast to the previous premises! Hope it all works out for them

Correct, a different menu than upstairs but under the same name and management

I think they should try and link the two. Would be a big job though.

Was always surprised The George chose to locate their entrance on Shannon Street and not on O'Connell Street.

Think it would have been financial, higher potential rental income from O'C than Shannon St.

Went to Zozabb last night with a friend and absolutely loved it. Food was beautiful, with the right amount of spiciness and very reasonable. We got the 3 course set menu and were comfortably full afterwards. Definitely will go back again as it made a nice change to chinese and japanese food. The staff were very friendly as well.

Tried ramen in the shopping centre last night. Thought my fried rice pretty average and camile don't have much to worry about. Herself had the katsu curry which got a firm thumbs up.

Had a takeaway from Zo Zabb last night - 20% off and it was fantastic. Combo starter was excellent !

I was there Friday night and I have to say I was impressed with the place. I had the yakisoba and the missus had the udon ramen, both delicious and packed with flavour.

My only gripes would be the fact that as the food is served in a takeout box, the presentation is ruined when you tip your noodles out into the bowl and all your toppings end up at the bottom, not to mention the wastefulness of this method of serving. Also, it would have been nice to include half a boiled egg with the ramen for authenticity. Will be back again regardless tho!

Fantastic meal last night. The restaurant was full to capacity for the night. Arrived at 7PM and was greeted by the both the owners one of which is the chef.

The wine flowed all night with top ups anytime your glass was near empty. This was the course for the night with all the wines from the Brut to the white, to the two reds and dessrt wine. Not sure how many glasses we had it total but it was very plentiful :)

The food delicious and served as french fine dining with local Irish ingredients. The highlights for me were the duck croqette with fios Gras and the fillet of beef wellington with gratin. The beef was cooked perfectly and was melt in the mouth.

The chef also talked about the various foods and wines and the inspiration behind them.

Would really recommend attending one of these nights if you can or for a nice meal any evening.

The price can seem expensive but its really for eight courses with as much wine as you would want as the amuse bouch (Smoked trout with cavier, pulled pork bellini and some cured ham on a some bread) would have qualified as small starter and also the petit fours (A selection of homemade miniature pastries and chocolates).

Was rolled out of the restaurant at 11:00PM after eating and drinking for four hours!

It was also announced that The French table will also be opening a new takeaway pastry and coffee stand in the Castletroy shopping center and are renovating the restaurant as have purchased the premises after being tennents previously.
