I went on the very enjoyable Feminist Walking Tour of Dublin today - and learnt a lot about Dublin's history and some of the women who shaped it.

I must confess that I didn't know it was today.

Me either. We should all get a day off tomorrow for it methinks.

Nah I'm not too bothered with it. Unless it involved me getting presents or chocolates then it's not a proper celebration day. Luckily my birthday is the day before International Women's Day (fitting that I legally became a woman yesterday!) so I got both chocolate AND presents :)

I don't think its purpose is to celebrate, rather to bring attention to the injustices women around the world come up against every day. Its not comparable to something trivial like your or my birthday tbh.

Well personally International Piste Day is a lot more meaningful to me than International Women's Day :)

Happy International womens day lads and lassies!

I celebrated prematurely on Thursday at the NWCI confrence in Croke park. http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2009/0306/1224242372454.html

Spent the whole day today in connoly books at their free international womens day film extravaganza. http://www.progressivefilmclub.ie/ There was some excellent films and documentarys on feminism in Ireland and womens movements in the revoloutions in Venezuala.

OMG there's an international women's day, who knew. I spent it cleaning up poop ... ah c'est la vie.

Well, belated. Did you do anything for it? I didn't, I don't know what I should do for it but I did catch on the news that Galway unveiled a tribute to the women of the Magdalene laundries with a statue.

What do you think? I reckon it would never had happen had there not been a film made about it. Do you think there should be a tribute in the form of a statue? I notice it is spelled 'Magdalen' too. Why do they drop the 'e' at the end?

I spent the day, cooking, cleaning, knitting and sewing. What does that say!?

I did enjoy most of it, apart from the cleaning. :)

I didn't know it was International Women's day until I got a text from a (male) friend of mine.
