Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It's not the length, it's the width (of the blades)

Some new bling to fuel my modding addiction this morning. Found this old SRP775 buried down the listings on Adverts from last year. Took a punt on it, pictures weren't great, looking sorry for herself on a poundshop bracelet. Gave her a good scrub and a cheap Khaki nato and she has a whole new lease of life. Literally not a scratch aside from an unfortunate scuff on the bezel. Full set (bar the OEM bracelet) Irish watch and still a years warranty left with Ernest Jones!

I'm tempted to leave it as-is, maybe a just flat sapphire with clear AR. It's a lot of watch for the money, loving the drilled lugs and 4R36 compared to the 7S26 in my SKX. My first Prospex, the build quality, fit, finish is a step above. Was apprehensive about the size of the case but to be honest it sits very snug on a 7" wrist.

If it were me I would just put a rubber strap on it.

Are you going to tell us how much you paid?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,918 ✭✭✭hitemfrank

    I was wearing this

    IMG-20200525-101016.jpg

    But then this showed up

    IMG-20200525-100943.jpg

It definitely needs a new strap but that should be sorted this week or early next week.

Yeah I’ll see how it goes. My preference is rubber for divers alright but I already have black rubber on my SKX. Might throw it on an old Z22 I have but long term I couldn’t live with it, there’s more ‘give’ in a rich tea biscuit than those yokes. I hear the newer design Seiko rubbers are a lot nicer. If anyone has something to sell lying around shoot me a PM.

The ad was listed at €210 no offers. They accepted a low ball at €190 with collection as they were local.

If you're after a rubber strap, I can't recommend Barton Elite Silicone highly enough. Wonderfully comfortable, quick release spring bars and a lot of colour options available.

I think I'll go a different direction with this one given my SKX is on a Crafter Blue. Thinking an OEM Oyster or Strapcode Super Engineer 2, just a shame Amazon UK aren't shipping Strapcode right now.

I think that Nato suits it well, the colours are complimentary.

I tried a few close ups with an iphone, this is probably the best one so far.

    514330.jpg

This was handheld, so maybe with a tri-pod I could get it a little sharper. Watch is a Damasko DA 44.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

If you want to try macro photography for cheap (without buying dedicated cameras - and more importantly expensive macro lenses) you can try clip on macro lenses for the iphone:
    https://www.imore.com/best-iphoneography-macro-lenses

(I'm sure Aliexpress has something that is 50% as good for 10% the price too if you just want to try it out).

The main thing when taking really close up shots is 1) focus distance (your iphone won't focus that close with its default lens), 2) stability as you pointed out and 3) getting enough light to actually light up your subject when you get really close :)

Good fun though - looking forward to seeing more shots of your collection up close :D

Seiko Arnie re-issue. I'm a sucker for an an-digi. This is nicely done. An ideal knockaround beater watch for the Summer.

Peach of a watch and I love Seikos. Not too sure it goes with the shirt and suit though :D

Love these but absolutely not with a suit.

    ^ Great picture though.

I wouldn't wear it with a suit myself but it doesn't not go with one, in that picture.

It has a bit of character alright, and I love the ana-digi function set.

That said, I have a SBBN015 Tuna (the older model not the reissue). This is very much in the same space, but I couldn't see myself parting with the Tuna...

A good day today, new watch. This brand really appeals to me. I have been after one of this specific model for ages, trying to find one in good condition, box and papers and get a good deal on it. I have the staff in Weirs pissed off trying this on, and ultra thins again and again and again. Super complex watch so need to get it already serviced or spend a fortune. These are not to be purchased new so Watchfinder in the end, and the service from them was great, 10/10 condition, Date pointer, day, month, moonphase, small seconds and power reserve.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Calander 151842A Cal 924. I am not a leather strap dress watch kinda person usually but this has a sporty case and sporty size, and a grey sunburst dial that takes on the colour of the light. Superb.

Very nice! Dial a little busy for me personally.

She looks thicker than I thought? 13mm?

is there an ultra thin version of that watch that I was thinking of?

Excellent points, and I appreciate them from you. Yes I think the dial is busy too. And I went for the reserve model for the busiest one there is. Its perfectly balanced but only at certain times and power reserve settings :D Its makes more sense in my collection overall as I have so many 3 handers and no dates.

Yes this is the thicker 13mm version its from 2013 when the tenancy was toward size. I tried the newer version which is slimmer without the reserve, but this one sits more chunky and has that...."very complicated" watch stance on the wrist I was after. The ultra thin was the default choice here and a stunner. But for me, who rarely wears a shirt I find the ultra thin a little too subtle and that size of watch I will save for "Calatrava" time. (Thats a real Calatrava JMcM not one I pretend I had suddenly).

I have gone balls deep in trying to create a balance in my collection. I have a spot for my solas, I am re buying a limited edition seiko diver, and then I need a ultra refined dress watch or maybe a Nomos for that bauhaus look. I will swap the datejust for a skydweller if the oppertunity arises although from an aesthetic point of view they are very similar. I and trying to find a digital watch or anidigi also that fits in.

I will update the SOTC once I am more happy with it.

Time...your prize is a F-91w PM me and I will post it to you :)

I am a little disappointed......i was planning on being the purchaser when you get bored of it!! Its heavy hitter piece though, a watch that one would love to have in ones collection.

I recall that vaguely.....i think he went on about how a Calatrava was his dream watch for a while. Then two videos later it was all how he has owned everything from 5 quid casio up to a patek calatrava!

    Lovely watch Fitzgeme

I personally like the thickness I have tried ultra thins before and they aren’t for me!

My tastes tend to run more to the sport side I just find them easier to pick up and wear for some reason but that’s a beaut

    Enjoy!

    Casio Tough-Solar AQ-S810-1AVEF

Arrived today from Amazon. Cost just under €50 inc. P&P and I got it rather than the version Argos sells for €42.95 because I prefer the white numerals/indices.

    515033.JPG

This is it alongside my great little MRW-200H-1BVEF which is currently on sale at Argos for €11.49.

    515034.JPG

Slightly bigger but it's those lugs that really make the difference.

    Casio Duro

    IMG-20200603-154024.jpg

48mm lug to lug on my childlike arm. If I wear it low on the wrist knuckle it doesnt look too bad. I don't think the 44mm case size is doing me any favours.

Maybe if it was 40mm case it might not be as bad.

I have another one incoming too.....:D Actually made a ridiculous low ball to a dealer on Chono24 and he accepted it for a Arnie reissue after seeing it on here. Love that watch and as a child of the 80's it get me in the nostalgia.

Going to try no sell watches for a while and accumulate them. There is no rolex on my radar except the skydweller and that a long wait if it ever materialises.
