Happy to do that re photos. Some already up from a previous post or two, but will take some more and better ones.

I'd be afraid to see what I'd get on a trade-in....

FYI, they sell on tz-uk for £3.5-£4k.

the ceramic subs run closer to £5k no?

This is an October 2013 model, ceramic, warrantied, boxed etc etc. If I got £5k stg or euro equivalent, I'd be happy.

This is it on the bund strap - not a great photo, but you get the idea: RolexSub2_zps5da75489.jpeg

Maybe I'm mistaken, I'm by no means a Rolex expert. Fdp, Id think twice about selling, it looks lovely.

5k is probably top dollar to be fair

Indeed - but it is a top dollar watch !

In fairness, it is a wonderful piece of craftsmanship, and I regularly see new aspects to it which keep it interesting. The lume is really good too. It's just not that comfortable on my wrists. The Speedy I have has a different and easier to wear strap.

I've no doubt it's my wrists and not the watch. I'd love a Datejust II (blue stick version) but am afraid of the same strap issue.

The current Speedy gets more wrist-time, but I miss a date function, so am planning (in my head anyway) to perhaps sell Sub and get a Speedy 9300 instead....maybe even with a leather strap.

Just curious, what strap do you use with the Speedy?

Well on my Speedy I swap between the braclet, a brown Hirsch Liberty strap ( http://tinyurl.com/pcy5kq9 ) and a Di-Modell Rallye strap ( http://tinyurl.com/ne7fqpk ).

I use the normal Speedy bracelet and a Hirsch Medici strap which has curved ends. On the Sub I bought a black bund, which is in my photo (above). FdP

I got outbid at an auction on that Speedy I posted today. I stopped at €1,400 someone wanted it badly and outbid me every time. There was a commissioning fee to pay too which if I had gone to €1,500 would have made it €1,800 all in without box or papers.

I hope I did the right thing and that the other guy was an enthusiast and not a dealer, and will enjoy it.

Love that Di-Modelle strap. Looks brilliant with a Speedmaster.

    That's the one.

Licence to print money that auctioning carry on. 16% due from buyer and 19% from seller, so 35% of the winning bid, very nice indeed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,257 ✭✭✭✭Eoin

Is that the norm? I'd expect that a buyer would pay some sort of flat fee / entrance fee, but a % based one sounds a bit gouge-y.

I emailed them about it and they could tell me nothing, no box, no papers could not even give me the model number, although I got the serial number.

OK folks can we get back to the topic please. Moar pics goddammit!! ><

Maybe start another thread on offline and online auctions?

Actually maybe not such a bad idea. A thread about upcoming auctions and individual lots on the bay and in bricks and mortar places.

I like that and will be interested to see the specs - is it a 44mm dial?

    Can anyone identify this watch?
I haven't got it yet, but I paid around €20 for it on ebay.

Seller states it has no markings but is jumping to the conclusion its a 1940's era "military watch" (which I doubt).

    First purchase from TZ-UK
Obris Morgan Explorer. Would have really liked the blue dial, but very much like this. A few firsts for me:

    Screwed Lugs
Brick style bracelet (which is very comfy)
He escape valve (which I will be using a lot :D)

Probably is a little big for me although looks worse in the photo

I've been a bit impulsive lately. This one is an Orient Ray - the photo doesn't really show it, but the dial is a lovely deep blue colour. The bracelet feels a little cheap, but I suppose that reflects the price point.

    13934663899_6ea56d7d74_z.jpg

Next is a Doxa Aquaman - I wasn't looking out for this, but the seller liked my Seiko solar diver and wanted to repair it (never worked properly for me), so I part exchanged it.

    Hamilton Khaki 42mm

    IMG_5485_zpsc9540b66.jpg

Steinhart Marine Chronometer II that I took in part trade for my Ball Fireman. The dial on this watch is stunning and the blued hands just pop, at 44mm this may just be a little too much for me. Gonna live with it for a bit before I make a decision if it stays or goes.

Got this watch in the post today, haven't a clue what it is as there are no markings on it apart from "edelstaml rostfrei" on the case back which just means stainless steel in German.
The hands are blued and the crystal is acrylic. Has a stretchy watch band which looks original.

Anyone have a clue? I'll check the movement later.

    306134.jpg
    306136.jpg

Edit: The back was a bit loose so I took a quick peek inside. Movement is 15 jewels, no other identifying marks. Very clean.

First mechanical watch. Wanted a brown leather strap, something simple and not too large on a small budget. Decided on an orient from creation watches after reading some posts from this forum. The Chicane fit the bill nicely. Liked the display back too. Cost about €75 delivered I think including tax, and to make things even better the missus bought it for me as a wedding gift :-) Been wearing it every day for over a month now and well impressed with it.

IIRC is it our Eoin that has/had one of these fellas on the bracelet? Here's mine. The only Omega I own.
    306620.jpg

Omega Seamaster Quartz, AKA the Mariner 1(not a name Omega uses). As a publicity stunt a pair of these were screwed to the mast and the keel of a yacht going through Antarctic waters. Both survived intact and on time.

Featuring Omegas first fully inhouse quartz movement the 1310. The serial number gives a general date of 1974. I could ask Omega for more details but they want 70 quid(IIRC) for the privilege. Sod that, you money grabbing gits. I'm used to Zenith and Longines(and others) giving me the details on a one to one email for free(oh that poor lady in Longines. I owe her a box a choccies at this stage :)).
    306622.jpg
The early quartz' from all manufacturers had a few features that generally fell out of favour. They were usually modular and had the option of adjusting the speed by a trimmer. The round doodaa at the top left. This one has an odd and fiddly extra, a tiny spring that stops backlash in the seconds hand. A bit that goes wrong I gather. The other dodgy part is the coil at the bottom. Waaay too close to the battery screw bracket thingy and a slip of a screwdriver and game over.

Timekeeping on ths one? I've tweaked it down to a couple of seconds a week. The orginal spec/claim was less than 5 seconds per month.

For a change with me, it's not on a Nato. Getting a strap is hard enough as if it doesn't flare at the lugs it looks wrong. My solution, being a cheaparse is a really cheap Casio strap. Fits it well. If you have a look at the original straps they came with the flaring is more obvious(and soooo 70's).:D
    306624.jpg

Size wise it's just under 40mm and the consensus seems to be because of the design it wears larger. I dunno. Even on my undernourished wrists it wears smaller than its number would suggest. It's grand because I've a small wrist, but if you were of a more beefy nature I dunno. Maybe it wears bigger with the bracelet? Pricewise? They can be had from 250 odd quid up to 6-700 quid for a NOS in box, though as usual dealers and some non dealers ask for more. They're pretty common, with 5 or 6 on any given week on the bay. IMH if you do get into early quartz a good plan is to source another example, or movement. Just in case. I have a second one of these. Might change the German day disks for english from it.

Cool watch though and waaaay cheaper than a mechanical Omega of the time. These days anyway. When new you could have bought two Speedmasters and one and a half ProPlofs for the price of just one of these. Speedys were not much above the price of an omega dress watch. Quartz was the future and very expensive. Hence the plate proudly advertising its innards. What a turnaround eh?

Actually I've a few early quartz' in what passes for my collection. For me they're an incredibly important and interesting time in the history of watches. Must get more piccies. They'll be on Natos though so normal service will be restored. :)

Yep I know, wrong battery size, :o but I hadn't the correct one to hand at the time. Seems fine.

I had one for a while all right; pretty unique looking watch. The bracelet was too small for me (and I didn't like how much it tapered in either), so I bought this cheapo mesh on eBay. The lugs are an awkward size at 19mm, but the seller shaved half a mil of either side a 20mm one.

    9293329647_2cc2d22b20_z.jpg

I'm kind of missing it now.

Unique looking they are E. :) Very distinctive. Very "Sci fi". A Cyberman watch :D They seem to vary in production diffs. The second "spare" one I have has a noticeably heavier case, thicker caseback, the crown is slightly smaller and the brushing is more a "grooving", the bezel is polished(like yours) whereas the one above is very lightly brushed. The day/date wheels are also silvered rather than white. Though from reading over the years Omega can be quite variable within the same model*. I do like this model though, as you say unique and I suppose if I am to break my "no Omegas here rule" it's not a bad one to do it with. :) For me and beyond the hype of the "Moonwatch" this quartz period was Omegas true highpoint.

*the movement is identical mind you, though sadly non working. I suspect the backlash spring thingy as the coil and everything else looks pristine. One of these days I may pass it on for someone to get it going again.

Nice - I was tempted by one of their GMT models. I had a nice leather NATO (very thin material) that looked great on my OVM, you should give one a go.

+1 on the leather natos. There are some nice ones on the bay, including custom jobs to your spec for around 30 quid. This guy has some nice stuff. This guy in the US has some nice stuff too, but more heavy duty. If you just wanted to try one for under 20 quid then these are good. Thin but well made.
