Here's a Seiko SNKE63K1 on a leather NATO. Got this one a few months ago but I hated the metal bracelet so much I couldn't bear to wear it. Cost me €38 on ebay, strap was another €20 odd.

Day window is in both Arabic and English.

I was thinking that it looked like a 6b/159 but I'm sure there's an earlier version with small seconds. Timefactors had a black faced www hommage - also with an as movement, but I much prefer the cream dial.
    TomCo wrote: »
    Honestly haven't a clue.

The dial is totally sterile and there are no identifying marks on the movement. From reviewing images of different movements it seems to use a AS984 which taking the style into consideration dates it to the 40's.

Lugs are drilled through and from the faint marks on the caseback it looks to have been on a NATO at some point in the past.

It's one of my favorites, I just wish I knew what it was!

It does have some similarities, but most watches from that era with a sub second dial look quite similar. I haven't found anything which looks exactly the same.

I posted a thread on it over here but didn't get much of a response.

Really like that bottom Seiko any idea what's the model number? Can find the ebay add and others with what appears to be the same case's but the dials are very different.

It was posted today so as soon as it arrives will takes some pics and see what the exact details are. Liked the style, normally dont go for non-circular faces but liked the look of this and was cheap enough.

My advice about the strap...remove a few links and then remove the strap and bin it...not great straps at all :D

Agreed - but I'll leave it for now until I figure it out. I much prefer link bracelets to fabric/leather.

Absolutely delighted with this new arrival :) Hamiltion Intra-Matic.. Modern reincarnation of the 60's classic!

Inside the new Intra-Matic is the well known ETA 2892-2 movement with automatic winding. It is a highly reliable caliber, with a 42-hour power reserve and like the original Büren caliber, it is very thin, allowing for a very thin case. At its thickest point (the center of the domed crystal), the watch measures 9.76 mm thick, and at the edge of the case, it measures a mere 6.48 mm.

Clean lines, display back, nice movement plus I have never had a Hamilton in the collection meant this ticked a lot of boxes for me when I'm trying to justify another watch in the collection :P

Not my pics but will post some once I get a chance..

I can't compete with that beautiful Intra-Matic, but to keep the Hamilton theme going, I picked up a Khaki Field Auto 42mm a few weeks ago. The dial is charcoal rather than black, and goes quite well with the dark green strap. Not keeping spectacular time (about -20s/day), but I can live with that.

Also picked up the Seiko 'Dracula' Monster, and put it on a Hadley Roma leather strap. Keeps excellent time (+2 or 3s/day when on the wrist).

TBH I'm running about half and half battery/handwind*, slightly more mechanicals. The battery lads are mostly quartz, but with a couple of electronic or tuning fork chappies thrown in. Now granted my quartz' are from the stone age of the tech, but that's a period that really revs my engine.

I love innovation in watchmaking, so in the way I love world war 1 wristlets, the early days of the wristwatch, I also love the drive to more accuracy and more technology and how folks approached that. EG I'd sell my left wobbly bit for a 1971 Longines cybernetic ultraquartz(genuine offer if you happen to be in the market for wizened wobbly bits). It's cybernetic FFS. Cybernetic. And when I saw Carltonbrowne's recent way cool find/discovery of an incredibly rare early GP engined quartz I sqweeeeeeed like a Justin Beiber fan. I may have even wet myself a little... :D

*automatics are the work of the devil godammit. >_< New fangled nonsense I say and lazy with it. Haaaaruuumph. :D

Yes indeed, brings back the memories...it was fun driving people nuts by covertly switching TV channels. Also reminds me of another innovative Casio I had from circa 1987, the JP-100W which took a pulse reading from your index finger. Funny thing is my wife has a cheapo Timex Ironman watch that does a pulse reading from your wrist, cost all of 12 pounds I think :pac:

I had a Casio with pulse reading when I was in primary school, spent every lunch break for days with a line of people waiting to get their pulse measurements. Every consultation ended with the 'patient' asking if the reading was good, and my response being 'I've no idea'.

Another Steinhart for me - this is the GMT Ocean 1. It may be a blatant Rolex copy; but I don't care - these really are great watches for the money. The purists don't seem to like the 42mm width, but it works for me.

They're hardly competing in the same end of the market; also I'm sure that there are other companies who could point fingers at Rolex for some of their designs not being 100% original!

€420 - mine was 2nd hand (in "as new" condition), and I got it about 370.

Of course not but watch companies can be anal about designs etc e.g. the panerai issue relating to MM homages.

By and large the only parts of a watch that are protected intellectual property would be the trademarks (company name & logo, brand names etc), so as long as these aren't copied the homages don't infringe anything.

This explains it better than I can - but basically most elements of watch design are functional so would have been protected by patents which have long since lapsed. It is also very difficult for watch makers to prove their designs are original, which would be required to protect them under copyright.

Eoin, is the GMT OCean 1 available with a cermaic bezel?

Think it wasnt when I bought my OB1 which was the only reason I didnt opt for the GMT

Its a super looking watch. I have mine about 2yrs and is practically my daily beater. Great choice..!!

42mm is more or less ideal for me also

I was talking to a Steinhart distributor in Poland who said that was an option, but I don't know if that was a non-OEM one or not. If it can be done afterwards, I might just go for it.

Looking forward to hearing your impressions of this. Really like this line and tempted by the 44mm versions, but my Hamilton Khaki field is 42mm and is just about fitting on my wrist. The lug-length doesn't seem as aggressive on this so 44mm might be doable.
