Seriously, it's only a matter of time and he will be in the ring with real quality.
He's 22 for gods sake and a fight or two and he wins and then it's a legit
crack at the cream. That's hardly a lifetime. It will be just before or just after
his 23rd birthday. I don't see why everyone is so so rushed here.
And I am in agreement that he hasn't faced the best yet. He will though, and very soon!

So, at the end of '09 or early '10, he will be either at the TOP, or on the thrash heap.

Then why have the guy on PPV fighting mismatches and passing them off as legit fights? I dont dislike the guy and know enough about boxing that guys dont get thrown in at the deep end for a long time but the constant PPV ad's and Jim watt and the sky boys talking the biggest load of pish is ridiculous.

I turned round to my mate on saturday during the fight and said this should be stopped as a no contest but they will let go exactly long enough for Khan to get the win and then sky will be giving it the "legend killer" nonsense.

If he is not going in against the top lads soon then take him off PPV...but then what are the going to do for an undercard now that Enzo has been shown up for the pudding he is.

Well, Khan is one thing and that is EXCITING. Jeez, look at some of what we
have been paying to see lately. At least with Khan, you
are guaranteed excitement and aggression and skill.
He's a quality boxer with all that.

I agree that he needs the step up; but like I said, it's less than a year away
    all going well!

BTW, he was a legend killer. MAB is without doubt a legend and Khan
has put a firm end to him I believe. MAB was "over" before Khan got
to him, but at least now we can put MAB to bed!

I wouldn't be surprised if Warren goes after one of these two:

    http://www.fightnews.com/?p=6700

Valero is a KO machine, but that was at 130 lbs, and at 5 feet 6, he'd be a small
    man to Khan.

It could be an easier route to a world title. Marquez and Campbell may be
too good at this stage, Campbell having moved anyway!

I expect Valero to win, make a defense, and maybe Khan and him at the end of this year!

The sooner this khan PPV **** stops the better because he SHOULD NOT be PPV. I want to like the guy i really do but the vomit inducing rhetoric by sky and Fwanks puppets prevents this from ever happening.

Sky and Fwank will keep putting Khan on PPV as long as people keep paying for it. I love watching khan fight and i dont think he deserves the stick he gets. He's fast, accurate, powerful and the fact that he has a flawed chin make him great fun to watch. I dont think he's that cocky, in fact he comes across as quite a likeable kid when interviewed and hopefully he'll continue to improve and maybe even win a title against decent opposition. Give me Khan over that prck Hamed any day of any week.

I do; but do you see an 'easier' way to win one of the three major belts?

Even the WBO belt is a tough ask!

Warren could use his connections with the WBO to request an interim WBO title fight for Khan when Juan Manuel Marquez looks to fight someone from a higher weightclass(eg Hatton), which he presumely will be for his next fight.

Khan may eventually be upgraded to full champion and then gets to defend against whoever Warren wants for several years unless Wilfred Sauerland has got a decent Lightweight in his stable.

    There all "ifs."

It won't be Khan's fault that JMM moves up.
I see Khan having to face TOP fighters by the end
of this year. That's all he can do!

He may win the WBO, after that he will
want to unify. I don't see Khan as the type
to sit pretty and spend years
    defending against muck.

I also see him moving to 140 lbs by late 2010

Well the WBA title against Paulus Moses may also be an option, but he's more dangerous than Alex Arthur.

Khan may want to unify, but he won't get anything other than WBO unless he leaves Warren. Warren won't put him in a big risk fight unless he's the underdog and his reputation won't be tarnished by losing. Under Warren he will never rematch Prescott.....ever !

Wouldnt be surprised to see Kahn-Arthur for the wbo belt. He keeps mentioning Prescott so hopefully they will fight again. He's as well to wait and see what JMM does before considering any title shots. Although if he looks upwards in the rankings there arent too many easy fights anyway.

Lets not get excited khan got splattered by a hand picked oppo fom the back waters, he will not pitched against anybody with a chance this side of 2011. Fwank wont put him in with a guy like arthur unless arthur has one arm tied behind his back.

The sooner the public wake up to the fact that they are paying through the nose for khan to pummel midgets with no chance of winning the better.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,972 ✭✭✭joepenguin

Well he wants a world title shot this year so he has to face somebody highly ranked by one org or another. Most likely the wbo. Arthur fits the bill perfectly if he wins his next fight. He's not an easy touch by any means but at lightweight world level you have some really talented, tough guys.

To my disappointment Khan was on top in the fight but King does make a valid point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,841 ✭✭✭Running Bing

It felt to me like the ref was just trying to cover his arse by letting it go past the 4th round.

They didnt want a no contest so they bottled it imo.......thats why I would personally like to see it again (although I admit my love of MAB may be clouding things).

Anyone think he will be successful? Im not too savvy on the rules here so if someone could explain the potential outcomes I would be much obliged.

In reflection it prob was a bit ridiculous that the fight was allowed continue past the 2nd or 3rd!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57,356 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Well, you can be sure that King aint doin' this out of loyalty to Marco or out of a sense of fairness or justice; he is doing it for business reasons, plain and simple.

I wouldn't mind seeing it again. I still think Marco gets well beaten.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Khan and his team accept it. They know they can win
and it would be like getting double pay for a single fight.

    It stinks!

As for the rules, not much to declare. I don't see how they can reverse
the decision to a "no contest," which would have been the result had
the bout been stopped before the completion of 4 rds.

It would be a simple rematch for the sake of a rematch!

I'd love to see Barrera do the same thing that he did to Naseem....ie give the guy a boxing lesson.

I think he was unlucky in the first fight when he got cut so early on. That clearly hampered him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57,356 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Mental, there is no way he's giving Khan a boxing
lesson. Khan's boxing skills and fundamentals are far
    superior to what Naseem employed.

To win, he has to KO Khan. It's his only chance and it's a slim
    one I feel!

Im not sure Kahn is all that interested in the money as I think he really wants to get moving towards a title shot. Could be wrong tho.

Anyone think that the decision could be changed to a 'No Contest'?

Well, if so, then the floodgates will have been opened and many results will be up
    for debate, records changed etc!

I say it will not be changed even if a rematch occurs!

I didn't want to start a new thread for this, but anyone else think
this would be a great fight for Khan and a winnable fight
too. Kats is a very good fighter, tough, offensive and strong, and
    a legit 135 lb man.

It would be a stiff test
for Khan, but a worthy test and if Khan can handle
the pressure, he dominates and gains a lot
more respect than beating a washed up Marco.
I'd love to see this happen in a few months

He'd have to knock out Katsidis within 2 rounds(that's the most I could see him going without getting hit clean), and I'm not sure he could do that.

I reckon Katsidis would knock out Khan within 4 rounds, so Warren won't even contemplate it. Not that Katsidis is anything special though, he's just exciting and aggressive.

Well, Amir will have all the physical advantages as well as skill and speed too.

So, it's all down to the chin and recuperative abilities as always.

Can Amir take it against Kats, because if he can, then Amir will
    dominate.

It's a stylistically great fight and will be non
stop. Khan if he wants, can plant those fet and really HOP
    off Kats.

With a chin that is sturdy, Amir wins this. That is what is so
exciting with him, he either dominates or succumbs to
    a heavy shot.

Still only 22, maybe a year or two will help him
take a shot better, not necessarily create a great chin, just
that maturity and experience to maybe recuperate better.

I like the guy because as you say he's exciting, I hate the hype train around him but that's another matter entirely.

But having watched the Barrera fight I was quite impressed with Khan(even though the fight went as I thought it would) till that 5th round. The reason I was so confident about this is because Barrera hasn't been a puncher since his Super-Bantamweight and Featherweight days and not only didn't I think he'd be able to land clean and hard on Khan I didn't fancy him to hurt Khan.

In the 5th he landed a right that badly stiffened Khan's legs........and there goes any hope of him doing anything. He was shaken up and floored by Willie Limond, a very good operator at domestic level but a man who wasn't a puncher at domestic level(at Super-Featherweight) nevermind Lightweight.
If the referee had done his job correctly in that bout Khan would have actually have been counted out.
When Limond put him down Khan got up, and then went back down at the count of 7 still not quite with all his wits about him, the referee counted up to 9 and on the point of when he should have said 10, he motioned for Amir to get up and Khan obliged. The ref actually told him to get up rather than counting him out !

Then in the Gomez fight he was floored by a very average right hand against a man who had been a big punching Super-Featherweight in his prime but hadn't been able to put a dent in Carl Johanneson(who's chin has been found out more than once at European Super-Featherweight level), and after the Khan fight he couldn't put a dent in Ricky Burns.

What was also worrying in that fight was that Gomez hurt Khan badly to the body too, one shot had Khan nearly doubled up and he had to protect that side of him for the rest of the round(about half of it left). Gomez hurt him to the body throughout that bout which is a bad sign.

Then Prescott blows him away in 54 seconds, and in Prescott's two televised fights other than that he hasn't looked particularly special nor has he even looked that big a puncher. Richard Abril took his punches fine for 10 rounds(then agan Abril might have a good chin).

Against Humbeto Toledo, although he floored Toledo, it took him 10 rounds and then Toledo was only stopped on a DQ for biting to end the bout. This is the same guy who Super-Featherweight Humberto Soto dropped 4 times and stopped in 3 rounds and the same guy Light-Welterweight Lamont Peterson dropped twice and stopped in 1 round.

A shot Stevie Johnston, who was never a puncher also managed to hurt Toledo. Toledo's not durable at all but still went 10 with Prescott.
I'm certainly not convinced Prescott is actually a big puncher.

and then Barrera goes and shakes Khan up, now Khan dealt with it quite well but against a fighter who isn't a former Super-Flyweight who's had his best days at nearly a stone below the fighting weight for that bout and is still in their prime I don't think Khan would survive.

His chin is probably the worst I've ever seen for a fighter of his skill level and even though he's improving his defence it won't be enough. Even Sweet Pea got hit clean eventually, and in this sport you have to be able to take it.........Khan can't take it.

All the time in the World won't save or help Khan, he just doesn't have what it takes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 57,356 ✭✭✭✭walshb

Like I have said many times, if ONLY he had that chin. By god he
would be hard to beat, s fast and so skillful and so 'big' for
the weight. He is a brilliant boxer and has been for so
    long.

Amazing in the Olympics, and only 17!

I'm an gonna' give him another chance and just hope
he proves us wrong. I aint all that confident though!

wouldnt happen. the only way barerra wins is to take a whole lot of kahns shots to land his own, because he wouldnt need all that many to hurt Kahn enough to put him in danger, plus the way he took kahns shots he didnt get hurt at all. Absolute disgrace that the fight wasnt stopped in the second round.
