Has anybody had thyroid surgery - if so what was your recovery like? Looks like I can either drink radioactive juice :pac: or get my nodule removed. After having a family member die of cancer in dec. I've decided any risk of cancer is a risk i don't want to take so leaning towards the surgery.

I'm only 21 and had my thyroid fully removed when i was 18. To be honest i was very worried about the whole procedure because i had never been in a hospital or had an operation before, but it was fine. One thing i was worried about was having a Drain in (which is where they place a drain in the wound to drain out any fluid) but thankfully i didnt need any, And they saved all my parathyroid glands.

The pain isnt bad at all really i only got solphadine afterwards its more uncomfy than anything else for a few days after your neck might be stiff etc, i got my stitches removed after 4-5 days with just the sticky strips covering it after that, and it healed pretty quickly, only advice i can give is use bio oil or something like that on the scar after because i got keloid scarring from it and it is quite raised and red, but nothing major. I'm just a fussy girl lol.

Thanks $lash!! I've decided to get it removed after going to a new specialist this week (the other one is retiring). The nodule is big enough that they can remove it leave the rest of the gland alone so it should 'wake up' once the nodule is gone since it's running the show at the moment.
