Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Also it would almost certainly be Plessis, not Spearing who's next in line (though Plessis has been average for the ressies this season)

    Late team change for liverpool

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,010 ✭✭✭besty

Alonso out is massive for United IMO. Lucas just isn't up to it.

Talk of a late change to the Liverpool side.

    Edit: Hyppia in for Arbeloa

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭kryogen

i honstly cant come up with a prediction besides a 2-0 home win, but we have had a day less of rest and its an early (ridiculous) kick off......

    ill just watch and enjoy!

apparently there may be a late withdrawel

it is, Hypia is in for Arbloa

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,820 ✭✭✭grames_bond

    arbeloa out?! last second!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,910 ✭✭✭✭whatawaster

    Arbeloa out. Hyypia in.

    Damn. Damn. Damn.

Please let it be Carra and not Skrtel at RB

Jebus, Rafa is getting his excuses in early!

    Arby out Alonso out :(

Not looking good for liverpool, losing Arbeloa now aswell

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭kryogen

its another counter attacking/attacking option gone too imo as Carra will now most likely play rb and he wont get forward as much or as quick in counter attacks......not exactly sure how good arbeloa is at that btw, just sure he must be better and quicker then Carra due to age!!

It also frees up Evra a bit.

And how many assists or goals does Anderson have?

About as many as Scholes and we all know how **** he is.

Arebeloa is a big loss, not least because we get to play against Hyypia now on the ground, with his lack of pace.
Then Ronaldo going up against Carragher at right back, always fun :)

Gona be a darn fun game :)

    Just about to start.

Hopefully will be back on here later celebrating a Pool win :D

Cant handle watching match and typing at same time, especially during these matches. Anything breakable needs to be a safe distance away! :pac:

The difference between the two benches really highlights the gulf in quality between the clubs tbh. Tyler just highlighted the fact United have 7 full internationals whereas Liverpool have the likes of N'gog. Could make the difference!

    COME ON UNITED!

Speaking as someone with no tactical nous, i would go three five two with masch and aurelio as wing backs, pull gerrard back to mid and push kuyt up. But i'm an idiot.

If they're injured, they're injured. Hyppia is a legend, a man who's done it in big games before. And Lucas is never a tick short of honest. The best of luck to them.

the utd player im worried about is oshea

he can defend but he really needs to help out ronaldo on the attack

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Gona throw it out there, I predict a United riot :)

Not a bad idea...bit too close to kick off to be changing your whole gameplan though

fan of computer games are we?
Does every player have to be measured in assists or goals? He's a hard tackler and does alot of the ground work for united in midfield. He might not get the assist but I'm sure he's been involved in plenty of buildups.
    +1

    Football is fcuked
The lack of basic knowledge is shocking
    assists? assists me hole!
It gets worse, players are talking about assists now!

Yup Spearing who has played 30 minutes of senior football should have been picked for his first senior start at Old Trafford ahead of full Brazilian international Lucas who has played 60 times for Liverpool. That sounds like a very wise decision.

:obut his workrate is 17/20 and lucas is only 16/20:o

As a united fan i can quite honestly say i would love it if Rafa had put Spearing in there in the biggest game of the season for liverpool instead of Lucas, (a guy who actually has shown he can play at this level)

    Some liverpool fans puzzle me

Some (and a growing number) liverpool fans :o me!

Ronaldo should come and play on the right, let Park look after O'Shea

    good block from Carra

i know its too early to make any judgement, but i get a feeling the Carrick will not be up to his best again

WRONG. You can't argue with statistics. Almost all American sports are highly stat driven by some of the sharpest Ivy League analysts.

wtf are you on about. Assists are as valid a stat as any other.

of course you can, assist stats can never and will never take into account the amount of times an individual puts a ball on a plate for someone only for them to mess it up or a shot taken that is saved miraculously by a wonder save

Stats are not everything and this is not American football

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 41,926 ✭✭✭✭_blank_

people who use stats to back up arguments are imbeclies imo.

Paul Scholes was muck the other night, yet his "pass completion rate" was 86%

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,407 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

We've had elshambo's rubbish before. I seem to remember a match thread from the CL group stages vs Marseilles. Let's not derail the thread arguing about this stuff....

I wasn't talking implicitly about assists but stats in general are good. In football they can be hard to interpret but are by no means a bad thing.

Liverpool have managed to establish a foothold and slow things down following Utd's good first five minutes...

this is the last thing im going to say so as not to keep derailing this thread

Stats have a use but they are not the be all and end all

As des said, Scholes had a bad game wednesday but his stats were decent

If you watch the game you can see who plays well, you can see who plays badly, you do not need stats to tell you that and stats dont hide what your eyes see

    Now COME ON UNITED!!!!

So guys, how's United doing so far? Gonna pop into Sinnots now(lunch break).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,407 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

Hmm, mistake from Carragher. He looks uncomfortable on the right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Liverpool have gotten back into this but they are having real trouble passign it out from the back, their midfielders seem to have to really drop deep every time. It's limiting them in terms of their attack.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭kryogen

Yeah Evra's recent form has been a little worrying but im sure he can turn it around again by the end of the season!

Form is temporary class is permanent :)

look how many pool have back!!!

Of course they're not the be all and end all. That's ridiculous. Jesus, who even thinks that?

FFS let's just go back to the game.

Carrick not looking good again, im worried about our central midfield now, Carrick will have to play well or we will lose that battle, cant ask Anderson to do it all!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,407 ✭✭✭✭LuckyLloyd

Riera looks a couple of yards off the pace thus far.
