Does anyone know anything about this estate? As far as i know these houses were built 2/3 years ago. At the moment there are quite a few for sale and most dont seem to have been lived in. Are they still owned by the construction company or is there something wrong with that estate? Seems to be another one coming on the market every few days.

It could just be that the price is still too high for what you're getting?
    Some old stuff here

Hardly a unique scenario in the country at the moment.

Barna might seem a nice location to some, but if the price isn't right & the mortgage not available, they're not going to sell quickly.

I suspect, but have no evidence, that a few would've been bought by investors who can't now get a big enough rent to cover the loan on them.

Check out the post here , huge variance in prices being asked for houses in that estate. From the example on that link there are two very similar houses listed on Daft with over €200,000 difference in asking price!

In fairness they look like nice houses but are probably just overpriced for todays market, speculators that bought are probably taking a hammering on their investment. I doubt there's much wrong with the houses themselves, and Barna is a nice area, just the asking prices (based on 2006 valuations) that are a bit silly.

Todays Sunday Business Post has a story about the developers of this estate.

The principals of the Fitzgerald Group ( Michael Peter and Paul Fitzgerald and Brendan Forde) had a judgement registered against them by AIB for €10m and at least one of them had to be served a summons outside the state I see. This is on top of another €6.5m of judgements a year back.

    From the courts database.
