Ipod touch 8gig 2gen help

Bascially the power button on the top of my ipod dosent work i have to plug it in to my laptop to turn it on and when it is on to completely turn it off which i like to do the button on top has now become the volume button anybody else have this problem any solutions and i have tried resetting please help.
