A house in Blackrock was completely destroyed by an explosion today.

There are no reports of serious injuries, but many cars received damage.

Dublin Fire Brigade says the front of the house at St Anne's Square, Temple Road, collapsed following the explosion.

The cause is not known but a Bord Gáis team is on its way to the scene.

An eyewitness said five units of the fire brigade, three ambulances and the garda helicopter are all at the scene.

Miracle if nobody is injured. It was one hell of a thud, everything shook.

I've heard from someone in Blackrock that 2 houses are destroyed. Hopefully everyone is ok.

I work in the building next door- I think there's 3 houses destroyed. Just walked past it 5 minutes before, and I think that there was at least 1 taken away in ambulance. THere was a huge explosion at about 115pm, and a massive smoke cloud, followed by a large amount of ash falling at least 400 yards away.

    It's not that funny.

They probably meant to blow up the building across the road in that photo.

The thing is though, these days you wouldn't think "Ah it's just a gas explosion". Most people would start thinking it's a possible terrorist attack or something.

if someone was gonna attack somewhere, i think theyd pick somewhere more important than blackrock. thats my logic on it anyway. definitely thought gas before terrorist attack..

Just went up and had a look. The guards have blocked off the road from the corner at sheehan's. Couldn't get a good view of the house from there but popped the head over the wall from the dual carriageway and the entire square was full of workmen milling about.

I was at home - I heard it. I thought it was the porch door being slammed really hard, until I realised it was WAY to powerful for it to have been that. Chopper was circling around for ages.. knew something was up.

Probably a gas explosion. Either that or there are some pretty retarded terrorists around.

In one or two areas, including the council houses on the street just around the corner from where the explosion happened.
