This is the first poll done for this years local elections and I would love to know what party you are going to vote for.

Times are changing it seems with FF very low in the polls and Fine Gael and Labour reaching new heights.

Which party will get your vote? 49 votes

    Fine Gael
    0% 0 votes
    Fianna Fáil
    24% 12 votes
    Greens
    14% 7 votes
    Labour
    8% 4 votes
    Independent
    22% 11 votes
    Sinn Fein
    0% 0 votes
    Wont be voting
    24% 12 votes
    Undecided
    6% 3 votes

I find with a lot of local elections it's the candidate that people vote for not necessarily the party and it's a bit of a tradition to hammer the party in government. But anyway I will be voting.

I'm not certain exactly who I will be voting for. I do know who will not be getting my vote though: Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin.

so the makeup of the borough and county councils in kilkenny city according to this poll would be:

    Borough
    FG - 4
    Lab - 4
    SF - 2
    FF - 1
    Undecided - 1

    County
    FG - 2
    Lab - 2
    SF - 1
    FF - 1
    Undecided - 1

But that outcome is impossible as SF are only running one on the Borough.

It'd be nice to see FF down to one. Or zero, not that its likely. I have zero time for Mr. McGuinness's offspring.

Nightwish why's that? you've already showed your distain for Andrew McGuiness in a different thread.

Did he turn you down in a nightclub once?

if they are to go down to one it would be john coonan who is elected anyway. baby macs vote wil be way down by the looks of things!

anyone care to give a stab at who the 7 and 12 wil be on the two councils? although i'd suggest doing so without reference to the poll which seems an unlikely outcome for kilkenny.

So allow for one then. I'd guess their transfers would go to inependents and Labour?

The Sinn Fein guy for the Thomastown area looks like he could do quite well. Lots of young support. Prob Labour again for me tho.

I'm lucky enough to not be single...he aint my type :pac:

I dont have any respect for him or his father as politicians. They are living examples of parish pump politics which is at the root of all that is wrong in politics in this country.
Andrew was gifted his seat on the council when the dual mandate for Councillors/TD ended. He naturally topped the polls in the local elections because of his name. Why people continue to vote in politicians on the basis of family, I'll never know. Andrew was also given a job as an "advisor" for his father. What qualifications he has for this I dont know. Why, Junior Ministers do not have to openly advertise these jobs, rather than relying on nepotism, is another unanswered question.

ok so workin it out a little bit better, involving the GE and the last LE transfer patterns, and now with a couple of more votes in on it. it works out like this:

    Borough (12 Seats):

    FG - 4
    Lab - 4
    FF - 2
    SF - 1

And a toss up for the last seat between FG, FF and Ind. I am unable to tell how many transfers the Greens woudl have got.

    County (7 Seats):
    Lab - 3
    FG - 2
    FF - 1
    SF - 1

Lab would have got a fifth seat on the borough only they are running four.

    Results now look like:

    Fine Gael - 6
    Fianna Fáil - 3
    Greens - 0
    Labour - 7
    Independent - 0
    Sinn Fein - 5
    Wont be voting - 2
    Undecided - 2

I don't know how Sinn Fein manage to attract peoples vote at all.

The list is long thats why I used them both.

Needless to say I now live a mile from my village and I am still waiting on a FG and a FF councillor to come back to me and let me know when the footpath will be repaired thats used every day

Your running ahead the indo is working on the path. The other 2 I am still waiting on and gave up on. No I am not annoying just worry about wife pushing pram. I promised the indo my 1st pref if he got me something even a long term commitment!

The sf rep helped me with the council and an ongoing blocked drain problem

Careful Joey, you will often find people promising you the sun to get your vote :) 1st pref for SF? Jaysus, I couldnt do that even if they were helpful with my blocked drain!!

I suppose I should not declare my voting it defies the ballot. But one thing I know is this. I am p1ssed off with FF, Enda Kenny would not win a raffle and labour conidering a pact with them is madness. Its the equiv of Karl Marx and George Bush. It just wont work. The PD's(Thank god they are gone) are very privatisation. Bad Bad mistake. The greens????? So all thats left is SWP Sinn fein and the Indo's. I have got a lot of help from the last 2 and believe all politics at the end of the day is truly local so why not.

For the record Enda kenny should be replace by Richard Bruton and they should get a women into finance. There chances would be much improved!

PS: look at the table - Seems I am not the only one!

I disagree with your comments about Kenny. Considering he has done wonders for his party, you cant beat that. They came pretty close to an election and are still doing very well in the polls. His party overall makes a lot of sense and offers proper solutions. The problem with FG is they are not vocal enough compared to Labour. Also, Bruton is better where he is - the best person to lead us out of this mess finance wise.

Labour are shouting and working with the public, manipulating the vote, while FG are taking things more seriously and only shouting when they know they cant rather then jumping the gun for votes which is exactly what Labour are at. I don't believe that if they got the chance they would refuse to work with FF either.

Wouldn't trust SF regardless of what they offered (and its **** all) and Indos can swing with FF so it defies the purpose of them being indos. Greens... after their spell in government, worthless imo. As for the table.. FG and Labour neck in neck...

I guess locally its always good to vote for someone who is best locally, but I could never consider voting for SF. Never.

TBH We can argue politics all day. I tend to be a bit vocal about it sorry. But one thing I admire is those who vote even if I dont agree with their vote I admire the fact they vote. I lived once in an estate of 99 houses and only 12 families voted. Yes while it can be seen you voted it cannot be seen who you voted for.

I read so much Bull about those who say they exercise their democratic right NOT to vote it defies logic cause their vote automatically transferes by the majority system so by not voting they have effectivly voted for those who got in. So a typical hypocratical situation would be

"I am not voting again Ever! Fianna Fail always get in and they are....."

So all you people who vote I take my hat off and bow down to your true spirit of beng irish, those who dont vote.....Get the boat.

This person has effectivly voted Fianna Fail

hear hear! i dont agree with who u are voting for but i also take my hat off to u for taking part in the democratic process which we fought for so long for.

the poll now looks like this for the borough council:

    FF - 2

    Lab - 2

Im not all that surprised to see Sinn Fein doing so well in the poll. Externally they seem to have the country's best interest at heart which is unusual as the vast majority of the population themselves only seem to have their own interest at heart.
The only problem is the historical inepptitude of many of sinn feins politicians particularly at a national level. (Caoimhin aside) Without support from more intelligent, articulate people then that will never change. However i believe those people are starting to come around to sinn fein.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,429 ✭✭✭brettmirl

Their economic policies leave a lot to be desired in my opinion.

All their policies leave alot to be desired but i think that is changing. Id probably join them myself but im not really a socialist.

  • Registered Users Posts: 130 ✭✭ChristIsMurph

this poll does not exactly represent SF in fairness! It suggests that they would get 4 people elected if they ran four. Not goin to happen. They will struggle dearly to get one elected im gonna suggest.

As I said whats the story christ with battering sinn fein you seem to have it in for them. What ever they get they get its clear your not going to vote for them but consider this.... A socialist goverment cannot mess up an economy any more and we need a socialist goverment. Dont tell me labour with their FG pact is socialist. You are fam with the word "sticky" Well labour is essentially run by the stickies which are ex workers party IRA men so thread carefully if it was good enough for labour its good enough for sinn fein

Finally lets call it as it is. SF are more outspoken and radical than any of the 3 main ie FF/FG/LABOUR So why the hell should I not vote them

ok joey quite simply im callin it as it is. ask anyone here and they wil tel u the same thing. just bcoz u are a SF supporter and dont like it does not mean u can mouth off like that. we all have to accept in some stage in life that things just dont always work out like u want them to.

secondly, labour dont have a pact with FG.

thirdly, we do not need a socialist govt. we need a govt of the centre. one that will attract investment from foreign industries and support workers at the same time. left wing drives away investment from industries and right wing oppresses the workers. centre = good

lastly, i didnt tel u not to vote for them. i only asked why u were. so less of the jumpin down me throat

I am not jumping down your throat but you askedme why I was voteing them I explained then you said not a good reason and decided to declare that your not voting them so really its you that is jumping down my throat

But enough said your voting so that counts.

On the pact thing. A centre goverment is what we have. Brush it up its what we have.

We need socialist policies now not capilist policies. Foreign industry is using this country that it Simple and we need more home grown industry we have nothing.... I see the new printer lads in this country designed can produce 3 D objects. They plan to get this mass produced in China. Why? Why? is it allowed, Free trade thats why.

So a centre goverment we dont need and I GUARANTEE pat rabbit and Eamonn Gilmore are just oppertuneistic(Mis spel) and I know they will go into power with FG.

I will stake my reputation on it.
