Tuned in for the first time ever today, to see some eejit jumping around with a violin playing about 2 notes. Of course, the judges called him a 'talented musician', and compared him to Jimi Hendrix and Slash. I can count on one hand the amount of times I've picked up a violin, and I'm 100% certain I could have done something better.

Stay on the lonely street so. You have not watched previously, so you have no idea of that lads pedigree.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 163 ✭✭zeppe

Look, I don't think any of us hate Irish music.

But, let me break it down for you. The violin guy basically presses a button to start a backing drum track, then lays down 4 simple notes, presses another button that repeats it, then does it again with the harmony, and then plays some inane melody over it. This is talent? That is insulting to really great, talented traditional Irish musicians.

Well the judges said he 'upped his game'. If THAT's what he pulls out of the hat for the final, I can only imagine what he'd been doing before. And to compare him to Jimi Hendrix?? Glad I didn't watch this god-awful show.

Lets face it there are far better violin players then that guy, some even younger, he is not exceptional.
The whole plucking etc is just a gimmick and the fact he has the zac efron quality guarantees that he gets the teenage girls votes

I am. Id imagine theres no difference at all between the way people west live compared to people in the east.

There act was all a bit twee for my liking. Its like something lifted straight out of Dev's Ireland. Or escaped from Bunratty Castle

So you reckon she gets the vote from all the 14 year old single mothers texting in who can empathize? If fairness, she does have a good voice but the person who chose the song and the person who chose her outfit (surname connors no doubt), should be lined up against the wall and shot.

Winner will be out of Daithí, Jack or Mulkerrin Brothers.

No i dont recon that she gets all the votes from 14yo single mums. You said that? What i meant was that 50000 euro would go a long way in bringin up her young children. I would imagine that there is lot of bill to pay feeding them, clothes for them etc. And i guess she choose the song herself as Blanath said after it gets a great reacation when she plays it at one of her gigs. As for who dressed her, maybe she could not aford anything better. prob the best on the night where the mulkerrin brothers and the opera singer from the north.

here's hoping the little dude gets it,but the whole voting for the act in your area might clench it for the dubs..pity because those 2guys had some problems...like their singing for one!:p

If he does get it i dont think little jack will get the money. If You know wat i mean;)

Ok so I didn't read the above as I am sure it was the same old same old from boards (Change the channel, both metaphorically and literally :D )

Anyway I have seen it on and off over the past 10 weeks. Unimpressive start to the series.

But this final is quiet good, bar Blanthaid's Token entry for the East, and I amn't a fan of opera so Dana's act was for me TBH. Each of the other acts really improved.

    Dublin to win!

Light Sunday night viewing IMO. 4 pages already !!!! I am sure everyone else is in good form :)

    The Mulkerrin Brothers ftw!

I thought they were fantastic with some future ahead of them. Their is no end to their talents that incorporated the very traditional values the show is about imo.

Where do you live? West Britain? Irish music and dance are still very much part of life for many of us.

I reckon 'Starn ' should book a day trip to Inishmore ........He really needs to see it for himself .........and don 't forget to hire the bicycle

I hate when talent show judges go on about how they could be international acts..what does dana know about international success!
I didn't know we had to endure boyzone!what sort of fresh hell is this!

    Who will be the victor?

Keith Barry would call that Neuro Linguistic Programming.

To be fair, Dana , and to a certain extent Shane Lynch, would be the only people involved with this programme who have any idea what international success is like.

And most likely are the only people involved with this programme who ever will.

god Boyzone really are an embarrassment at this stage...

At least all the Westlife lads can sing to some extent.

Probably just as well little Jack did'nt win. He seems such a charming little fellow but not sure his family would be able to handle the "fame" which could result in the little lads detriment.

The acts on the final would be classed as the funny or joke acts in X Factor or Britain's Got Talent. 50grand seems far too much for such an amateur programme. 50 grand of licence payers money on that absolute tripe.

To be fair Ateam, the opera singer has a fantastic voice. I think she probably could of done with a better choice of song

Ya know what, I don't begrudge them winning, but there must be tons of trad players across the country tonight thinking '**** me, i could play umpteen times better'...

Oh, and for those that don't know, Daithí Droney is doing what Owen Pallett (Final Fantasy) does in his solo performances. (check youtube and you'll see).

Did they audition? No. You can't win, if your not in!

TBH this is just as bad as any song on the LiveLine when Joe Duffy bring Brush Sheilds in to the studio some Fridays.

    Not that funny!

If you ask me, the Mulkerns deserved to win! A talented family!
I mean there was some talent on that show & excellent variety!
    Singing, dancing, music ect.
It was a good final! I must say I did like Jack Lynch allot too, a dancing masterpiece to me! (Im no expert)
I will enjoy the interview tomorrow!

I don't believe that but perhaps you consider Irish people Hicks or something. Personally I would rather real people then the fake jokes that are X-factor Judges and Contestants.

Guess what RTÉ and the production company made allot more then 50,000 in Advertising Revenue and in the Phone in vote, I am sure they didn't need to touch the license fee.

Also did you see the dancing in the rain guy from Britain's Got Talent IMO just as bad and as good.

Swap the fiddle for the guitar, and KT Tunstall did it years ago too, 'live' on Jonathan Ross if memory serves.

Meh... I'm sure RTE made enough to cover the 50k....although Im surprised that they didn't drag it out for a few more weeks.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 82 ✭✭Kat Slater

The show would have worked slightly better IMO if the semi-finals had been over a week with the final on a Saturday night, like in Britain's Got Talent. The whole thing was dragged out too much over 5/6 weeks and showed up the lack of talent even more, along with the endless pleas for votes.

The right act won last night anyway, considering the acts that were there (although I was cheering for Jack! He was lovely.). The opera singer was the most talented there, but she chose a song last night where she couldn't do the high notes and it probably worked against her, also someone from the North would have very little regional support on an RTE show.

Whats the name of the song that Bert and Victor sang last night?

I don't think Irish people are hicks but I think the final did a fairly good job of making us look like unoriginal untalented hicks. The guy that won the last series of Talent in the UK wasn't great, but the acts in general over that have been fantastic and there was some truly original and entertaining stuff happening. That show makes variety, a lost genre, seem accessible again. Our version comes across as a cynical attempt to copy that but without doing the homework first. Just look at the pathetic wild card gimmick, kept everyone happy so that each judge could be a part of the final.

The winning act is dreadful. Tacky to the extreme and completely unoriginal. Yes they're talent, but they're not the whole package.

The Man Who Can't Be Moved - The Script.
Not sure how much of the song they were playing. I dont think they were playing the guitar picked bit.
