Unlock iPhone 3G with 2.2.1 Software?

    Hello,

    I bought an iPhone 3G on Pay as You Go today in the north. All I have done is activate the phone, I haven't updated any software on it. However in iTunes it says the software version is 2.2.1.

    Does this mean I can't unlock the phone?

    I've been reading some posts about it but it's kind of doing my head in trying to figure out if it's possible or not.

    If it is possible, I'm not really sure how to go about unlocking it. The threads about it here seem a few months old so I'm not sure if they are still accurate.

    Advice definitely welcomed!

    PS: I'm a complete novice when it comes to phones. I know nothing about software such as cydia, yellowsn0w and all the other software mentioned around unlocking the iPhone.

    The baseband firmware that comes with 2.2.1 by default hasn't been hacked yet, so none of the existing software unlocks work with it.

    You might be able to work around the SIM lock using a turbosim type device.

    I tried Turbo Simm device (3 of them) and they dont work with the 2.2.1 firmware. I also have a new 02 Iphone with this version of firmware and am having trouble unlocking it.

    Help !!!!!

    Rebel sim claim their sim will work with 2.2.1 ...but I can't confirm it. Want to hear of someone who has it working before I order one!

    wow ****..... i was going up this weekend to buy one. any update on unlocking it.
    where did you buy your iphone and was there any questions asked.
    do cpw except eire trade-ins
    will you be able to up grade to os 3 this summer

    correct me if I'm wrong but 2.2.1 can be unlocked now.

    first you have to downgrade the baseband

    yes once 3.0 is hacked you will be able to upgrade to it
