I'm running for UL Education Officer this year and want people's opinions.

What is good or bad about the UL Education system?
What really annoys you about lectures or the university in general?
What do you think an education officer should be doing?

Please vent as much as you can but be constructive, it'll lead to more creativity. :)

Seeing as you are PLANNING to run for the education office a few bits of advice (shouldn't really be doing this given my intended role in the elections , but I'm just can't help myself):

    1. Issues are in most cases department specific if not course specific so the request for general opinions on education in UL are well and good, but such broad issues generally lead nowhere.

    2. It's nice to express interest in finding-out what students care about; however, as a "potential" :P candidate you should be telling us what you are going to do for us.

    3. Having the matter in the public domain (on boards) will mean all the other "potential" candidates can see what issues are being raised and equally address them, i.e. taking from any potential advantage which may accrue to you through the initiation of this Thread! ;)

Best of luck with the nomination and if all goes well I'll be offering you condolences in less than 2 weeks! :D:D:D

There's no flexibility in when you can study certain subjects. Eg, you have to take exams at the same time as the rest of your class, there is no summer program. If you miss anything, it will set you back a year. There's no room to graduate early, or to stretch it out.

Also, maybe I'm weird in this respect, but I hate that we are called Ireland's sporting campus, but we take absolutely no pride in our sports. Can anyone name a player on our rugby team? Our hurling team? Basketball team? Does anyone even know what our university colours are? (They suck by the way).

    Hmm, what else....

Also (not really an education issue), I know there's probably nothing that the Education officer can do about this, but why does everyone go home at the weekend? That's what Chistmas, Easter and the bank holiday at October are for. Serious lack of college atmosphere because of the mass exodus at the weekends.

can they ever get it right? This semester alone i've had hours wasted because they can't get the email or the servers working correctly. Seriously, we pay "registration" fees and they can't even do their bloody jobs properly!

This is the 3rd time this semester that i can remember that they've f**ked up.

If i could change one thing - it would be ITD.

I've split off the discussion on the weekend and why no-one's around to a new thread here.
