Yes they are... Im expressing my opinion on the cars in question...

The people iv seen who own them in Ireland have no use for them whatsoever... They buy them for the bling factor and they would never buy them if they didnt see them on TV or rap videos...

Honestly why would someone want to own an Escalade in Ireland... For the same Price you could have an X5 or a Range Rover... Better car and better MPG

Same Goes for the Dodge Ram... Nissan Navara... Better car and Better MPG

....Maybe they just like the car in question so they buy one? You shouldn't generalise like that.

    because they might like them???

I have no need for an iPod. But I still bloody have one! I bought a new touchscreen phone thing last week. didn't need it. But it's purdy. so I bought it. So people buy things because they like them! I wouldn't buy a micra cause I dont like them.

Well thats fair enough if they 'like' them, But the reason the majority buy them is for the image of driving a big American car

Does it annoy you when some Irish people particularily teens copy american culture. A lad in my school saying "dumpster" and wearing those sick out of date converse shoes. Are they just embarresed about their culture or what?
Especially when they call the Gardaí "cops". Jesus come on. Saying things like " Check it out " or "Pretty" eg : thats pretty cool.

    Any thoughts?

I'd arrange a special party in Dundrum shopping centre and then ....

How dare they and how dare the millions of Americans who will be celebrating Irish culture in the coming week. What are they thinking!

OK this thread is about "annoying Irish people copying americans"...

We've gone too far with this argument, iv expressed my opinion, you've expressed yours, i understand where your coming from, if someone wants to buy a car they like, by all means do it (different strokes for different folks) but i just feel the reason for the majority of people buying big american SUV's(ultimate americanism) is for the Wow factor that they see portrayed on TV associated with these cars... Ill leave my opinion at that!

Ahh jeeze, it's just a hangover from the celtic tiger ,when parts of dublin represented east LA for a few ...weeks .

I know Dublin gets a fair few spanish in for the summertime, but that hardly makes it East LA.

How can you speak for "the majority" of them? I'm sure some people feel that way, but I don't think you can make a general statement like that. If someone wants to buy a big American car for whatever reason, let them off. There are a lot of things that I'd love to have if I could afford them, but sadly I can't. If I could though, I probably would spend money on things that I didn't need or things that weren't at all practical or efficient.

Tbh, I doubt you know the 'majority' of them all, or even a few. unless you have a poll to back it up?

    For the record:
I am not trying to defend Americans (most are idiots) or American culture (because I don’t believe there is such a thing).
I am not an American, but have lived in the states for 16 years.

    From my experience..

Most American parents can’t understand half the Sh1t that comes out of their children’s mouth. (television IS to blame for this)

This is their fault however, because most American parents do not have any time to spend with their children and thus sit them down in front of the television to keep them out of the way. (tv = babysitter / mom / dad / grandparents / social interaction / education)

NO ONE NEEDS A HUMMER. And you are more likely to be harassed for driving one in America (by Americans) than in Ireland. It is impossible to park, too costly to maintain and serves no practical purpose. (besides.. excess is officially out-of-style:p)

Wait.. I just though of a practical purpose for a Hummer; running over stupid valley girls.:D

As for wearing converse.. umm.. say the people who wear kilts and sporrans???

The one bad thing about St. Paddy's Day in the states is having to endure American frat-boys in kilts claiming to be 15% Irish ..while drunk beyond reasoning from a couple of pints of some Americanized pseudo-Guinness.
It makes me want to own a Hummer. With an oversized steel bumper!

I think a WTF fits nicely here.

    NO ONE NEEDS A HUMMER

I do. I can't think of any other vehicle currently available to me which carries the weight I need transported over the terrain I need to get across.

    NTM

    'Most' Americans are idiots ?

I have found that when people generalise like that that they actually show themelves be idots themselves.

I have an American accent from watching too much television as a child, but it's better than the knacker accent everyone else in my area has. Also converse are cool and very comfortable, get with the times.

    You mean this:

The obese kid at 1.00 had me in stitches:-)

The one I hate the most is when people ask for food "to go" instead of asking for a take-away.
Also, a person at work recently told us that "everything my kids need to know about life can be obtained from watching Scrubs". He's a real decent lad but I must admit I cringed when he said this.
