Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,
Nice shot - it looks like you have cranked the saturation a bit.
Some suggestions/tips based on my own admittedly limited experience:-

    1) I try to "stop down" [i.e. set the aperture to f22 or the highest it will go] as much as possible - it seems to reduce flare and it gives a nice 'star effect' to lights [e.g. - http://johnsmyth.ie/blog/2008/09/22/147/]

    2) Try to avoid having street lights in the corner of an image (it's more likely to cause flare)

    3) When including the light-streaks of passing cars, try to get them moving diagonally across the image - also, backlights (red, orange) are more interesting that headlights (white). Try one of the 1 million roundabouts around Galway for 'swirling' tracks of light.

    4) Try taking pictures when the streets are wet - nicer reflections of light off the road (wet nights should not be an issue in Galway!)

    Good luck,
    John

Hi, thanks for your feedback. I found it very helpful, especially considering this was my first attempt at night photography.
I did notice (only afterwards) that having a lamp in the corner did give a lot of terrible glare that I had to photoshop out.

Re: exposure and the moving lights, I have it set to the lowest it will go minus2 stops with f8.0. I assume I could get lower than this with a better quality camera..? I'm afraid that's all I can get out of this bridge. At least I'm pretty sure anyway.

cheers! I must try a 'moist' day take at some stage :)
