    Hi all,

I'm looking for some ideas for portable water troughs. I've searched google but have come up empty.
I want to break up my grazing paddocks/ strip graze etc but don't want to fix up a permanent water trough to each one.

    Any advice appreciated.....

We use those blue plastic barrels cut in half, and a long hosepipe, takes a bit of time tho.

I saw a homemade portable water trough in the farmer’s journal a few years ago. It was half a plastic barrel fitted inside a homemade metal reel. To reel in the water pipe all you had to do was turn the reel on its side and roll it. Here is a picture of a similar one.

Thanks for the replies. Picture is a great help.

Looks good for cows but will sucklers and calves not break the stop cock?!

I don't think they would as the ballcock is on a chain and can move around freely. You could always keep the water trough partly under the electric fence to stop calves walking into it.
