Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm in 2 minds about this situation:

    1) Hope I never see the fcuking thing (or it never sees me)
    2) HELICOPTERRRRR!

Now what would be funny would be to follow the crew of the Google car & get some images of them in the pub, in the jacks etc. They must be staying locally. Like when someone got a cherry picker & filmed though Kelvin McKensie's windows when he was editor of the Sun.

It passed me today while I was sitting at a bus stop in Eyre Sq.

Will be cool to have a Google street view of Galway. I'm not bothered if I'm in any of the images.

Mam told me that there's some "internet car" going around taking pictures of people. Asked what to look out for owing to the "internet, it's full of paedo's and psychos? God what would they do with the images?".

Damn you Goolge, terrifying our technological illiterate aul wans!

    AHHHH I just saw it!!

Was driving up to the shop (in Moycullen), live on a small 'one car only' road and he came flying toward me!!!

I look like this  on it! I can't wait until it goes live!!!

It would be cool to follow him! Red Astra with big long pole coming out the top!

    Soooo cool, I'm so excited!!

It is doing Connemara all week . Once it finishes it will do Galway and then it is off to Limerick

It will take until the autumn to process the pictures and fuzz up peoples faces before it releases the streetview walkthroughs :)

First time a search engine ever went looking for ole Sponge Bob and it found him lurking by the roadside out past Bushypark .

It feels very ****ing odd ...honest :p

They're doing Connemara? That's nuts... any idea what routes they're doing? Thought they'd only do cities

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,790 ✭✭✭cornbb

Damn, I know this sounds pathetic but I think it would be so much fun to catch that thing passing by and give it a big wave or give it the finger or something! :D

Here are a few snaps of people who were quick with their phone cameras when they saw the BigBrotherMobile passing by... http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/03/24/surveillance_feedback_loop/page2.html

I cannot say but I can confirm that boreens in Bushypark Barna Moycullen and Spiddal are of high importance in a super secret project and that cities will be done.

All of Connemara is certainly more important that Castle Park which is a 6.30am in June 'special project' as is Mulhuddart , Tallaght , Darndale , Most of Limerick , North Cork etc .

Google are sticking to safe and pleasant areas in daylight hours , for now . They will do the cities when it is safe to do so !

Spotted him again today , the google sticker has now been removed from the car for some reason. He was parked up at Furbo beach waiting for the rain to stop and with the camera covered.

Spotted it at about 8.45 in Spiddal - same as above - waiting for the rain to go - think he'll be doing that a lot today!

Very unusual that they're covering Spiddal. There isn't even high-resolution of that place on Google Earth (not the last time I checked anyway).

We might be waiting til next March  Google Earth only seems to use imagery without (much) cloud cover, I wonder how many times they had to wait for the satellite to pass over Galway before they could get some clear images :D

Google car seen going about it's business in Spiddal and Carraroe.

Also, there was short item about it on RnaG, repeating the above info.

This morning, on my way into school, we were caught in traffic outside the side entrance to NUIG on the Newcastle Road. I spotted a car with a huge black mast sticking out of its roof with some covered equipment on the top. The mast was at least 10ft tall, meaning that the total height of the apparatus (including the car) was nearly 20ft tall.

The car in question was a surprisingly unsuspicious bright red Opel Astra with the words "Google Maps" on the side. If you see a bright red car with a 10ft tall pole sticking out of it make sure to wave!

There is a guy I work with that spends a lot of his time on the phone to his girlfriend during work hours. He used to go outside and ring her from behind the trees in an attempt to hide what he was doing. Everyone knew as he would disappear for abot 20 minutes at a time. Clearly people are not impressed with his routine.
Anyway, this image popped up on Google Street Maps of the road outside my work building (see attahed). It's genius…… but at the same time you can see how it can be annoying if you're caught on camera.
We all had a laugh about it in the office and sent it around.

Maybe some of their snaps didn't come out and they had to come back to get some nice ones for Mammy Google. I saw the car in late June last year in Renmore

    Reportedly.

However we've not seen any evidence of Street View Galway yet, so probably only Google knows (and not their search engine either! ;) )

I saw the car outside NUIG the same day that ... umm, someone a few posts back. It occurred to me to wonder how we know the car is actually Google.
