Yet again we have a thread complaining about the moderation in AH and yet again you're the one behind it, yet somehow nothing is ever done about it. Why is that? Why is your "I'm Terry, I can do what I like" attitude tolerated when you're the moderator of one of the biggest user-creating forums on this site?

Is it because people feel sympathy or pity you? I don't know, but I sure as hell haven't seen such an attitude tolerated in other fora.

I like many others have had my run ins with Terry, but I'd just like to point out that Terry won "Moderator of the year" last year so perhaps you are in the minority with regards some of your opinions, or maybe they are just outdated, and not up to date with the current population of Boards.ie.

EDIT: Sorry I only seen after I posted he was banned and can't reply. Please delete this posts if deemed neccesary

No Mod on this site should have to put up with having to read that kind of crap from anyone.
    Banned for a week.

I've just searched for wagon wheel pizza in Google images. Christ, was it the size of the pizza in the first picture?

    /awe.

I had a photo of it once with a 12" pizza box on top. It was 4 times the size or the 12" box. Each slice was almost the size of a dinner plate.

    Edit: Yep. That size.

    Did you not get that?
I mentioned them several times in that last post.

    There was no bile though.
I keep that under control with Zantac and Gaviscon.

Zantac is very good, it's a bit too expensive though, think I'd rather have indigestion than spend 15 quid

I know it's AH, but respect for the dead should still hold some place on Boards.ie.

If we as a community are going to set moral goals (no torrents, no porn, limited sexual topics, no drug talk) then at least we should aspire to some sort of humanity, even if it is a free-for-all forum.

That said, maybe thats what AH is for, I don't know, I just prefer the positive aspects of that forum.

That's exactly what I'm aiming for.

So why should someone be respected more, or not have anything bad said about them, just because they've died, like it was an achievement?

I don't believe in an afterlife etc so from my point of view, the person has now ceased to exsist as a living organism. This changes nothing about how they acted or what they achieved or didn't achieve during life, so I'm not sure why it's deemed socially respectable to suddenly go into a 'oh can't say anything bad about them, what if the Death Gods take me next?' attitude.

Even if you do believe in an afterlife, they are supposedly in a better place now, hopefully free of pain etc. and frankly that doesn't sound too bad.

well they can't answer criticism when dead so it's considered a bit unfair

Leaving my issue with the don't speak ill of the dead lark aside for a minute, the idea is hardly consistent.

What about that scumbag from limerick that shot himself? Personally I couldn't care less but the don't speak ill of the dead brigade weren't around that time.

And if it's an issue that he was a worthless piece of crap, what if I felt Jade was too? Surely if it's down to opinion of a person then its "debate on" so to speak. As anyone that considers them a scumbag doesn't have to respect the dead.

He was teaching someone how to commit a murder.

See that's what I don't get. I agree he was an utter tool and deserves the mocking he got. However if "Limerick scumbag" was killed by another gang member would we have had to respect the dead in that situation?

I know this is all theory at this point. Hell there was a "discussion thread" about Goody that I felt had the perfect balance to be fair. I guess at this point I'm just trying to get a more specific definition of the "respect the dead" that fits others beliefs e.g where and when can one bad mouth the dead?

I'm guessing, like some issues on boards there is no definitive line and it's dependent on the mod's opinion of the person and their opinion of the "respect the dead" issue.

That's basically it. We don't operate a universal "don't speak ill of the dead" rule. It's a case by case thing and comes down to a judgement call on the part of the mods. As evidenced by the number of reported posts from the Jade Goody threads against the number of reported posts from the Collopy thread, I think the right call was made.

a certain someone bought the farm showing her mates how much coke she could ingest, but it certainly didn't mean it was open season on her. Or him. <_<
    >_>

just proves JB's point, the nature of the threads means there can't be any hard and fast rules about it.

like, you would imagine in the case of someone like Jade that people who wanted to slag her off would have more class than to go into a thread specifically created so those who want to can pay their respects can do so, but sometimes class is lacking here, especially when people who wouldn't DREAM of saying anything publicly have a screen-name to hide behinde.

That's fair enough I guess. And I know there were posts that were OTT. I also realise the hassle mods have to go through with a tonne of people reporting posts. However there were plenty of people who didn't see a problem with discussing her negatively. Unfortunately, like most things, its those that complain that stand out.
I don't think mob rule is always a good thing either.

In fairness, it wasn't. The thread was changed to a condolence thread when it wasn't working out as a discussion thread. Most of the abuse was before that.

So to sum up: some people are aggrieved because they want to express how utterly unworthy of attention and comment fame-seeking celebrities are by paying lots of attention to - and commenting at length about - their death on boards.

I think you'll find my take on that matter was quite different.
You're talking about Katie French, right? Don't worry. The dead can't sue.

    He was also someone's son.

Like Katie French, he chose his way of life.
Jade Goody did not choose to get cancer.
