Hey guys and gals does anybody know of a government type initiative or anything like that where you can adapt your trade(electrician) or learn a new one while claiming jobseekers???

Or even an apprenticeship type situation where id be earning the same as the dole but working and learning at the same time:D:D (much rather get paid a pittence while learning a skill)

    any suggestions would be wonderful

    Hi,
I am not sure about the Fás option.

I teach in Tipperary Institute in Thurles and Clonmel, TI have been running renewable energy courses for the past 6 years approx.

Some of my colleagues teach an advanced certificate in renewable energy http://www.tippinst.ie/courses/part%20time/Advanced_Certificate_in_Renewable_Energy.html

and an Advanced Certificate in Domestic Sustainable Energy
    http://www.tippinst.ie/courses/part%20time/Advanced_Certificate_in_Domestic_Sustainable_Energy.html

These course typically run from Sept to April.

Other options include 1 day courses that Quentin Gargan runs on Wind Turbines and solar panels http://ardnashee.com/courses/

Hope this is of some help.

    Liam

Don't know of FAS offering any really worthwhile courses in renewables right now, Quentin Gargan's sustainables course is definately worth taking part in, attended his discussion in cultivate recently, very interesting and definately the future.

Try searching for courses in northern ireland. I think hotcourses.? is a good website to find them. I think you'll find alot more on offer there, city and guilds, short and long etc.
