Dogs Tail Thinning Out??

Our Golden Retriever is now close to 5 years old and we've noticed of late while grooming her that her tail is getting very light in the hair department. she used to have a real bushy tail but its now a shadow of its former glory. is she just getting older? or is there some other cause? her hair everywhere else it thick…
