Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Tbh I would have taken a draw before the match.

We won't win the group, this just keeps Bulgaria off of us fairly comfortably.

It's just the performance which is so depressing

The supporters did? My stream died just after the Bulgarian free kick in the 93rd minute.

Anyone who goes to a match and "supports" a team, and subsequently boos their performance should get a lifetime ban from the game.

Yes it was poor fare, yes, it appeared that the limited ability of some players hindered the team's performance, but to boo "your team" off the field under any circumstances if disgraceful.

They so called fans can f*ck off to be honest, the team would be better off playing behind closed doors in that case. Only a gobshite could fail to see that Bulgaria probably deserved a point out of that game, and that either team could've snatched a win late on.

If any of the Irish team or management are please with a draw on home turf they should take a good look at themselves and consider their position. There's no doubt the team is limited, but there's enough Irish talents to build a team that should target at least winning at home against any side. Despite the performance tonight, booing the side off is a disgrace.

Some muppets in the crowd as usual.:mad:

Well there is this little thing called a recession going on in this country at the moment and if people are paying their hard earned money (€50, €70 and higher) to watch that crap that was on show tonight then they are well within their rights to make themselves heard in my opinion.

Why is everyone talking about Stephen Ireland????

The dude doesn't want to play, i beleive Trap has approached him a few times...

They have the right too boo after the game for 50-70e a pop.

Paying that kind of money to watch Trap blatantly NOT play our best team is a bit of a farce.

We could all see it coming in the previous two home games.

    What is our best team?

To everyone thinking we can get better(i.e. players) can you specify what players were missing bar Andy Reid and Stephen Ireland?
    Andy Reid-injured...
    Stephen Ireland-doesn't want to play....

Watching the lads on rte, discussion is interesting....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,362 ✭✭✭K4t

Andy Reid and Stephen Ireland back in that team and we're the best team in the group.

We have very good players and Italy are nowhere near the team they were when they won the world cup. FFS, we only lost to Bulgaria tonight because of an own goal and that was without a player in mid-field who could get the ball down and make a pass.

There's a worldwide economic recession at the moment, it's not just concentrated on our little green isle, despite what Joe Duffy and his listeners would like you to believe.

I agree that filling the stadium should be more important than revenue to the FAI, and that ticket prices are steep, but tbh if someone is financially struggling and they decided to drop €50+ on a ticket for a sports event they need to reassess their priorities.

The match was very poor, but if Ireland had held on and won 1-0, would they have booed? Or would they applaud the teams performance because they were lucky to get away with a win? The performance was poor, the result was fair, so my issue is with the supporters who appear to boo because we didn't win, rather than having an opinion on the teams performance.

If you'd berate the team's performance irrespective of the result the OK, but if you're only going to boo when they don't win, then that is another matter entirely.

    @ MIN2511
Carsley who was also mentioned on RTE in the midfield.
A RB - Foley should be ahead of McShane.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,520 ✭✭✭✭noodler

When did he say he wants to come back?

God what a tonic him and Reid would be.

I would be more disappointed if it hadn't been coming in the last 3 games.

We still have the hardest part of the campaign to come, Italy twice, Sofia, Nicosia, Montenagro at home. We should be worried.

this, coupled with Trap's lack of confidence in letting the players get on the ball, is the problem.

but in terms of players, Carsley for one.

Do you think he'd start? Maybe out wide but not in the middle for me. I think Carsley and Ireland would be a very good CM partnership, great balance. Carsley would give Ireland alot of freedom. Obviously none of this is going to happen though <_<

Is this what you are referring too? Not exactly a plea to be picked by Trap:

"Even the hate mail from football fans in Ireland has ceased, even if he is still reluctant to consider a return for his country.

'When I first got in to the Irish squad when I was 17 I was so proud,’ he reflected. 'It’s not that I am not patriotic and I know much of this is my fault. But it’s sad the way some people still want to criticise me. I know the Irish thing will take longer to fix. I just think I am quite happy as I am right now.

'I read in the press that (Giovanni) Trapattoni and Liam Brady have said they have contacted me. Well, they haven’t. That’s all I can say. Never say never, though.’"
