Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

firefox breaks other browsers, but not MSN

I have a weird issue where firefox3 periodically gets stuck trying to access a website (it even happens on pages on localhost). From then until I reboot, none of the other browsers can access the internet. They're all stuck on "waiting for reply" or similar. I use multiple browsers because I do some web dev work, in case you are wondering. I'm running Vista fully patched, with up to date firewall, virus and windows defender.

The thing is that other web services like msn and outlook send/recv continue to work fine. I can ping/traceroute any website. I've disabled all firefox plugins bar firebug, but I don't think firebug is responsible. Any ideas what might cause this? What functionality/service is common to all the browsers but not needed by msn, outlook, etc?

    Thanks for reading.

This may not be of any help to you but FYI.

Is there any java or active content on the page you are accessing.
I have had issues with certain websites that intermittently hang firefox when accessed.
At the time I tried downgrading java and also reinstalling the flash player just in case but the issue came back.
I'm just waiting for the next java update to see if that resolves the issue.

Thanks M@21, no java, just javascript on the last page that was loading when the problem struck.

Disable your Security Software or reduce the strength of it, it's blocking your webpages.

Cpu-dude, I think you found the solution, although it's not quite what you thought. All browsers were trusted in my firewall, and I'd even disabled the firewall briefly after hitting the problem, all to no avail.

You got me thinking though, I installed the avg 8.5 update a couple of days ago, and sure enough - a quick google yielded this:

Thats definitely the problem I'm having. The only question now is whether to wait for a patch or move to another virus solution....

Disable it temporarily until the patch comes out because you won't be able to access your Broadband until.

If I disable it - I'm open to infection, and theres no word of a patch or even an acknowledgement from AVG on this problem. After the 4th forced reboot today, I couldn't lose any more prductivity so I installed Avira... No problems since.
