Sony Handycam problem

    I'm hoping theres someone out there who can help me with little problem I have with a Sony Handycam I have (model no: DCR-HC18E)

    I've had this camera for a few years now and its hardly ever been used. When I went to use it recently I noticed that it will now only work when its plugged into the charger and will not run on its battery. As soon as I plug out the charger cable it switches off.

    Can this be fixed and if so where would I get it done and how much would it cost? Or would buying a new battery do the trick?

    Any ideas would be much appreciated.
