    2+ or - √12 is what I got anyway. Delighted with myself. Never lost it :D

    Edit.. Disgusted with myself again.. Textbook error. I'll stick to doing tens and units :)

    No i think its, -b= 4+/-
    √12
    2

    divide the 4 by 2 and also the √12

    To divide it into √12: make it √4 on the bottom, put the sq root around the fraction;
    12
    √---
    4
    like this, kinda, hard to format

    = 2+/- √3

    This is correct, you can do it by completing the square.

    Yep it is plus or minus 2 root 3.

    OP, the root of 12 can be broken down into 4 root 3. Then divide by the 2.

    Just in case you're interested: if the coefficient of x^2 is 1 and the coefficient of x is an even number, then completing the square is a quick way to solve a quadratic:

    x^2 - 4x +1 = 0
    (x-2)^2 - 3 = 0
    x = 2 (+/-) sqrt(3).

    Of course, the technique works in general. It's just that under the condition specified above, it happens to be quick and easy.

    no your definitely wrong on this one.. √12 becomes √4√3 ie. 2√3 ...

    then you have 4+/- 2√3

    the 4 and 2 cancels with denominator and your left with 2+/- √3
