I felt physically ill and so sad after the last two scenes between Michael and Derek last night. There were very dark undertones and the whole thing was extremely sinister. Straight away I thought Derek had raped Michael. In fact Eastenders did every well to put those two scenes together and portray such a shocking event without actually showing it. If it was just a beating I don't know why they wouldn't have shown Derek take a swing at Michael. In fact they didn't show anything at all only Michael crying with a bloody nose and Derek panting heavily and fixing his pants and his hair and didn't he say something like 'as much as I enjoyed that...' It was very chilling IMO. I personally don't think it was just a beating. Those two scenes were carefully planned and executed by the Eastenders production and if a lot of people got the impression that Derek raped Michael then I think that's exactly what they were trying to portray.

If Derek is and was sexually abusing Michael for a long time then it would explain why Michael is so scared of Derek considering he is such a hard man himself.

It will be interesting to see where they go with this storyline.
Im sorry i read this now brrrrr.

Michael is really terrified of Derek and Michael did seem to bound with Ronnie who too was abused

I find the way Derek is over his sister Carol also disturbing she too could be a past victim of him

Wow I didn't pick up on it last night but now that I read your feedback it does make sense, sadly...:(

Ahhww, i think all the above(refering to derek/michael) is right. Sad tho. But it would just make so much sense. Michael is an odd ball as it is, and they dont (usually) have someone in a soap act as strangely as him without giving some sort of reason or background at some stage. Also, remember the stuff that derek said to carol about why he hated david? That daviid put bad ideas and stories into dereks girlfriends head. Well i know i, for one, thougt that was weird at the time. I remember thinking 'is that all??' like i really thought there would have been a better explanation as to why there was so much hatred between the two. Well maybe david knew what derek was up to (ie. The abuse, if its true) and told the girlfriend? That would certainely make more sense. Also think derek has a strange hold over carol, so maybe if there is an abuse story in the pipelines, she will come out as one of the victims? Tbh the scene where michael comes to derek at the arches an hasa tear in his eye (there was defo a tear!) and then it goes off to something else and comes back and dereks panting, micahels on the ground...well i thought that was odd at the time and was wondering why the didnt show the beating, if thats all it was. Well now after reading the above and thinking about it, i am sure there was more to it. Definatley! Such a sad story though.

The actor that plays Ben gets quite a bit of stick on here but of all the young actors they have Id say he is definitely one of the better ones. The line about the old Ben that dances still being inside him made me laugh out loud, it sounded as if he had eaten that younger dorky Ben.

Also never thought of the Michael/Derek scene from a couple of nights ago as a potential rape, pretty interesting observation.

I really don't think that Carol will come out as one of Dereks victims of abuse. True there was a weird vibe between the 2 of them, but I think it was largely due to Dereks tendency to over-act. If Derek used to abuse Carol she is the type of person who would hate him for it and I dont think she'd be capable of being as nice to him as she has been...?

Hi guys, haven't been on in a long time but went googling after I watched a week of eastenders this evening. The first thing I thought when I saw that scene with Derek and Michael was that there was something more sinister like rape involved. Seems I wasn't the only one who picked up on it, and that would say to me that eastenders is doing what they do best. I have a feeling that Tanya's sister rainie knows something aswell, I remember he made a reference to her not looking as young and innocent as she did when he last saw her at Tanya and maxes wedding. This could well explain her alcohol dependency.

good observation. I actually read on one of the digital spy type websites when derek first came back that there was 'history and alot of tension' between tanya, rainie and derek so tht could be it. I dont know about anyone else but im dying to see eastenders during the week to see how this all plays out.
If it is true, the one thing thats confusing me is the next day when michael, anthony, tyler and janine went to the pub and derek wa there well it didnt seem like michael had been raped the previous evening....but i suppose all other evidence points to it so il just have to wait and see!

I noticed that Derek felt uncomfortable with Michael being in the vic and saying everything was alright, it unnerved Derek abit to see Michael was ok

i very much agree with this. Derek kept saying not the face etc, then i was thinking maybe it was only a beating but really until it unfolds who knows.
true form to Ee, keeping us guessing

Ben is one of my favourite actors on it, that closing scene was great.

thwy should bring grant back now. he should take on derek and get phil out of prison because phil or the mitchells in general is the only man who can have a monopoly of businesses in eastenders. also how is ian affording everything for mandy. he bought her a new car and his seemed new and especially now since jane took the cafe. is it the chippy and the frit and veg stall is all that he has left? id say soon both ian and janine will be broke

It seems pretty obvious to me that Mandy is a trophy wife. Used for sex and hanging on the arm. But then I would be shallow in saying that ahem.

Jack will fall for Bianca pretty soon.

Anyway, Eastenders does love the family in breeding!

The whole Derek/Michael scene was very disturbing....and yet I dont know if it would be as bad as an abuse story? If it is, then EE have done the very unusual step of not leaking it as a story in advance - I dont like this dark side of EE, so I hope they dont linger on it. I think if it was sexual abuse, surely Derek wouldn't have been saying anything to Jack about it??

I think that Derek & Tanya have some secrets from the past - I wonder if he tried it on with Tanya or something, and then warned her never to tell Max.

What really strikes me as completely nuts is Derek's hold over both Max and Jack - I know he is their older brother but still, they haven't come across as anything like gangsters compared to Derek.

Thank God for Kim & her comedy - otherwise I think I'd have to stop watching as it is too dark!

The cover of one of new soap mags
had a headline Derek rapes Roxy and Max's new lover and pictured was Mandy, Lucy or Kat

Derek talks to hitman Andy about putting the frighteners on Roxy. Andy attempts to grab Roxy, but is interrupted by the arrival of the dodgy booze. Derek calls the hit off until he finds out Roxy and Alfie have scammed him. Derek tells Andy the hit is back on.

I thought Heather was on the way out, courtesy of Ben??? Or will it be a case of Andrew taking the blame for that?? Maybe that's why EE brought him in in the first place!

Yeah, it's looking like Andrew will be the culprit of what happens Heather now, not Ben.. but maybe that's a decoy and the wrong person will get the blame..

I was so sure that when Heather came in late, her fiance would have done somethin terrible to George!! :( thankfully not! I can't relate to the new Lucy at all yet, I keep picturing the old one! New Lucy and new Ben not to mention the new Lauren came back evil! Personality transplants!

New Lucy has a strange fashion sense and odd hairstyle. I don't think much of the actresses portrayal of Lucy.

I feel sorry for Hev, her only shot at happiness is apparently doomed!

Poor old Fats has awful hard luck.. Really hope they get him a decent girl. Although I do like Whit, think she has been very selfish.

I think Alfie is going to get the Vic into awful bother and Kat will return to have to pick up the pieces in a couple of months.

Im not a fan of Whitney but I've got sympathy for her on this one. How could anyone stand to be with Fatboy? It would do your head in, I think she deserves a big congratulations for managing to survive as long as she has with him. I know we are supposed to feel sorry for Fatboy because he is the wronged party but he is so downright annoying that feelings of sympathy towards him just aren't possible. During their break up scene I found myself hoping against hope that she might slap him or something.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,424 ✭✭✭Storminateacup

    Lol fatboy is a legend...

When they thought they hit a deer that time and they went to report a hit and run and fatboy is like "aight Bambi got mashed cept it wasn't Bambi it was my boy"
