Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

This thread is for all race fixtures. If you are a race organiser, please insert your race here instead of starting a new thread for that race.

There will be a separate "Race and Meet" thread so that people can talk about upcoming races and their plans for them etc.

There will still be separate threads for the biggies like Ballycotton, Dublin, Connemara, Raheny 5 etc.

We'll see how it goes and make changes if necessary.

The main event will see competitors race the 26 miles of the Mourne Way from Newcastle to Rostrevor, Co Down. This route is a linear route, almost entirely off road, traversing the foothills of the Mourne Mountains passing Tollymore Forest, Fofanny Dam, Spelga Dam, Leitrim Lodge and Yellow Water before arriving at the finish in Kilbroney Park in Rostrevor.

Can you please give me background on this race?
My interest is related to the fact that my son, Patrick Bell was a triathlete before he died suddenly on June 19 at age 23 after completing the Ashland Triathlon in 2005. Is there a connection or is this just a coincidence?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,450 ✭✭✭meathcountysec

Not sure of exact background but this year is the 24th running of this race. You might contact Bohermeen AC directly as they are promoting this race.

Wow ZuppyLurk thats a pretty comprehensive list! I didnt realise there were so many events. I will be doing the Youghal 10k and will consider some of the others too. Thanks a mill for that.

It is but there are a lot more events there. I just put the ones close to the city. If your in Youghal then look further east as well.

Im actually in Clare but my sister lives near Youghal. It would be great if there was a list like that for the rest of the coutntry too- I suppose thats what this tread is about:)

Would love to have one calendar for the country. But considering I type so slowly and have no idea how to merge the different lists other than cut and paste.

The list I have put together is from about 5 different sites and most of these groups don't work together makes a national list of event across a couple of sports a distance possiblity.

Statements like that make me laugh. Whether you like it or not, the Chairman of Navan A.C. and the Race Director are responsible by law for the event. They are responsible for the health and safety of the competitors, volunteers and spectators.
People shouldn't be put off though, as I've run races in Navan in the past and I'm sure this one will be as well organised as all the others.

    Hi All,
I just wanted to let fellow runners know about the inaugrual running of 'The Lakes 10k' in Blessington, Co. Wicklow on the 10/09/09 (one week before the Dublin Half so should be a good training run!). This will be a fun event for runners/joggers but with a competitive element for those who what to go for gold.
It wil be run around part of the beautiful Blessington lake on a fast, flat and scenic route and will have the following features:
    Chip timing
    AAI permit
    Accurate measurement (Jones counter)
    Bespoke Technical T-Shirt
    €1200 worth of prizes
    Goodie bag and more
This is a charity event also and the registration fee is €28.
ALL profits go to The Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland.
One of our club member has a child with CF hence this is our chosen charity and truely worthy of a helping hand.
In relation to the fee we realise it's at the top end but we decided early on to add features like a Technical T-shirt, chip timing, goodie bag etc. to attract runners into the event and hopefully build on this for next year. The lack or a title sponsor as of yet means costs are high. Over half of the fee is already going to the cost of the Technical T-shrit (the likes of which would cost more to buy in a shop).

Due to the logistics of ordering the technical T-shirt, people who have registered before the end of July will be guaranteed the correct size. So we would ask people who are considering to do this run to please register early.

    You can register online at:
    www.lakeshorestriders.com
Hope to see you there on the day. Many thanks.

This is a 5k cross country event (don't be put off - its very flat and run on grass/parkland). The race is open to all and starts at 3pm (registration will be possible on the day from 1 o'clock.)

Last year saw nearly 800 runners, joggers and walkers of all ages, complete the 5k course around the beautiful grounds of Castletown House in Celbridge, Co. Kildare. It will be a wonderful recovery run for anyone doing the Dublin Half Marathon.

Entry to the event will be by donation or by sponsorship card. To get a sponsorship card or to find out any more information contact lizmcdonnellrun@eircom.net.

Ideal for those new to running or racing and suitable for junior athletes also. Supporting cancer research, its a wonderful cause and a great day out.

A copy of the course is available here and an article here explaining the origins of the race (http://www.leinsterleader.ie/sport/Liz-McDonnell-run.3368832.jp)

Could be a nice build up race to the XC season there :). Thanks for that.
